PERF CENTER 627 MISSING PARTS ??
I had occasion to look at a very clean consignment 8 shot 627 snubbie at one of my favorite LGS today. Obviously shot very little. Timed correctly on all holes both single and double. Nice and clean with box. However, as I was checking the fit I saw a NOTICABLE side deflection in the cylinder/yoke assembly when a very modest side pressure was put on it. I know the thing does NOT have an ejector end lock but it seems to suppose to have a detent lock in the yoke just below the ejector rod. Trouble is I didn't see any parts in the mechanism and I could see right down the hole. There didn't seem to be any rub marks on the frame where a ball detent would engage if there was one there. Clearly I took a pass on it. Even the owner, who was a gunsmith, couldn't explain what was going on (or not going on) there. Anybody know if there SHOULD BE some clearly visible mechanism there? thanks. (They were asking $800 FYI)

See ~minute 4:40 of the video. There is a ball bearing detent in the front of the yoke.

Thanks a bunch. I checked the video and I could definitely see on the video where the detent lock parts are. The parts were definitely missing on the one I looked at. Thanks again.

There's no bargain here. $800 would be a starting price for a 100% gun. I cannot fathom why the lock parts would be missing. It's not a good sign. This is not a project gun. I would pass on it even if the price drops.

The yoke and detent assembly needs to be replace. The original parts probably came loose under recoil and was lost at the range when the cylinder opened. I’d try to pick it up cheap and have S&W fix it, if nothing else is wrong. Cheap to me on this would be no more than $500 for dealing with it. BTW, I have a hard time believing an actual gunsmith doesn’t know better. Not cool at all in my book.

If you do acquire the pistol with the intention of restoring it to usable condition, S&W would be my first choice to do the work. They have the best resources to deal with what may be missing, understanding and correcting what led to the failure, and potentially correcting whatever else may not be obvious at this time. They may not do it under warranty, especially if you don’t have the missing parts [that fell out?]. Either way, you pay or the do it under warranty, the latest ETA on their work is 16 WEEKS as of Monday this week :-/
