642 PC TRIGGER
Ok so my first post. I have been looking at a 642 for about 1 month now. I have not shot one but pulled the trigger on a stock unit and a PC version. The pull on the PC is defiently nicer but both had a scratch return. My question has anyone else felt this as well.

Yes, please define "scratch return." I might know what you mean, having bought more than one 442/642 lately.

ok what I mean by scratchy is the pull is as expected little heavy and long ( coming from an auto guy) but good the return just feels like I dont know rough. on the pull all I feel is tension but the return just is not the same. I have felt 4-5 relvovers and they all felt the same. On my 1988 19-4 it's not like that at all.

The OP might be feeling the rebound slide. It may not be smoothed down with use like the on his 19. Just a guess on my part.

I keep posting same thing-recently got 642 enhanced action, and trigger pull is sweet, and not heavy - again I think going with the enhanced action on this gun is worth extra price. It will be my carry gun.

I'm thinking Bill in Texas is on the right track. Sounds like a rough rebound slide. It will get better with use or is easy smoothed by a gunsmith.

Nothing a little TLC can't fix.
Probably just some friction from rough parts or the machining. I look over any new gun I get, and clean it up if needed. Just part of owning guns, but takes a little bit of expertise so not everyone does.

While I don't remove the sideplate any more, my latest J-frame purchases are very dry, with little lubrication. On the firing line, the triggers stick in the rear position after about 50-60 rounds, and must be pushed forward. After cleaning, I put 2-3 tiny drops of oil on the trigger. Just a smidge. This has cleared up the problem as it seeps into the action. Guns work fine on additional range sessions. I also vote for the rough rebound slide as a contributing factor.
