I admit, I've been slumming it with rubber grips on my harder recoiling guns. The first one to get rubber was a hogue bantam on a J-frame.

Then I decided to try a set of pachs on my 657. Well this is how they fit....



I mean I love the recoil reduction, but I cannot get that seam to close! =(

Pachmayr's one-piece design that slides on the gun from the rear is a good example of how a company ruined a fine product . Find the older two-piece style.

Be aware that they made both a Large and a Small thickness. I find Small about ideal for N-frame and K-frame guns. This is for Presentation grips. Not sure about Grippers, maybe only one size. I have Grippers on a GP-100 and love them on that gun. But my S&W's get Presentations, usually. Your hands will tell you which to use.

I also like the discontinued Uncle Mike's grips.

These are not "slumming." They are very practical and unless I could afford the very expensive Walter Roper style grips or maybe those by John Culina, I think these rubbers are best. The old smooth rosewood presentation S&W grips are also good, from the 1950's and 60's. But they are also very expensive, if you can even find them.

Just saw your added photo. Those look like round butt grips. To me, a M-657 ought to have a sq. butt, with four or six-inch barrel. If you have some sort of short barreled form with round grips, I have no interest. But those might well have round butts. I think such guns were made.

Texas Star makes a fine point. The original Pach grips from the 70s were almost sculpted to shape and fit beautifully. However, I find these older grips have hardened over the decades (!) to the point that shooting with the older grips now hurts my hand. Unless there is a way to restore them?

I think that this revolver has the wrong style of rubber grips. Like round-butt grips on a square-butt revolver. I am not the first to mention this in this thread.

I wish it was the case of wrong frame/wrong grip.

The revolver is a RB 657 PC (the UDR style), and the grip is definitely a RB cavity.

At this point I am thinking of cutting the rear of the grip apart to make it two halves, and then trimming them to fit somewhat better. Given the weight of the grips, I am thinking that these will be used for longer shooting sessions and the occasional IDPA match. The rest of the time I'm just going to keep the ahrends on it. They sting more, but for short shoots they are fine and they look nicer/carry better.

Looking at the photo, my first thought is that these are K-frame grips trying to fit on an N-frame round butt.

If not, just let Pachmayr exchange them for another set

I keep the Pachmayr Compacs on my N-frame Night Guards
However on the PDR/UDR revovlers, I like the older wood combat grips

I've been lucky. My older grips haven't dried out and become hard. But Carl Zeiss Optik told me to use Armor All to avoid rubber problems on their binoculars.

No excuse necessary for going with rubber grips. I have them on almost all my revolvers. The only parties my revolvers go to are shooting at the range and they are happy to go and get out of the safe.

Try some Pachmayr Diamond Pro grips. You'll like them.
I also like Pachmayr Decelerators. They are narrower than the Diamond Pro's.
