Default New .460 and need red dot advice

Hi Fellow S&W Fans,

I have just acquired a .460 PC that I want to mount a red dot on. Prefer something that is low profile and light weight. I worry about a sight with too much mass causing too much stress on the mount when firing full power loads. In addition, this revolver is already heavy enough without adding a bulky red dot.

Does anyone have any suggestions on a red dot for this beast?
Any input would be appreciated.

Thanks, Karnivore

Bent on a red-dot?
This cartridge will perform well beyond red-dot range.
Get a scope and bang steel (or what ever) at 200+yds.

No experience with a red-dot on my 460, my Leupold VX has held up well.

I have a Trijicon RMR01 on a Glock 40 and only shoot stout 10mm ammo in it. I love the sight, but I don't know how it would hold up to a 460.

I have the 12" 460 xvr and I too am thinking dot down the road. I purchased the Venom 3 moa dot for my FNX45T and prior to purchase I sent an email to Vortex asking if the Venom can handle the recoil of a S&W 460 mag , they replied yes, and the Venom has a lifetime warranty.

Projected usage will impact what works best. If you plan to shoot paper or tin cans, a low profile is fine, but for hunting or competition, the larger the area of the sight, the faster you'll be able to pick up the dot.

Leupold makes a nice one that allows you to change the battery without any tools and turns on automatically when it senses motion. But like all Leupold products, it's not cheap. But it also has a lifetime warranty, and the company has been around for a long time.
