Default 686 stainless 8 3/8” barrel milled for scope

I have this revolver for 10 years. Love to shoot plates out to 200 yards. Just wondering what the value is and what were the called. It has the factory scallops for scope mounting

To my knowledge, the only factory option for scope mounting was/is drilled and tapped under the rear sight. If yours has scallops, I'd suspect after market work.

Most 686's in reasonable shape seem to go in the $500 to $800 range. Unless there's something unique about yours, I think you'd be in that range, probably the upper end. But that's just me speculating.

ETA: OK, so the scope mount cut is factory. Learn something new every day ...

You have a product code 104251. They are not particularly rare, but I think they were only made for a couple years. There's probably a couple thousand out there. I more often see the M586 version.

I think it was just called the Distinguish Combat Magnum Scope Mount. The Rings are special and were made specifically for those guns. S&W ran out of spares decades ago and is not making any more. No other manufacturer offers a ring that will fit.

The rings are far more scarce than the barrels cut for these rings. (And very valuable).
