Default Model 69 - think there's a possibility of 45lc/ap in the future

With a 5 shot 44 cal now available on the L frame 69 model....any predictions of a future offering of a 45 lc or 45 acp on the same L frame?

I'm predominately a 45 hoarder and would definitely be interested in the smaller L frame size for practical carry.

5 revolver shots in 45lc is still formidable enough for any self defensive situation.

No. Member steelslaver has posted the measurements and the math.

In their 5 shot Tracker line Taurus made both .45 Colts and .45 ACPs in various barrel lengths with adjustable sights on the longer ones. Unfortunatly, since Taurus used a thin moon clip their .45 ACPs will not fire .45 Auto Rim. Also, unless Ranch Products has filled the void, Taurus' discontinued proprietary moon clips are hard to find.

I carried my 6 shot Colt DS off duty rather than my 5 shot Chief mainly for that 6th round even though I don't like Colts.I emptied the DS on 2 occasions.

That being said IMO the L frame 66-8 may be a better carry gun than the 69 just for the 6th round.

As for a 5 shot L frame 45C,I seriously doubt it.

^^^^what he said. If so, I wonder what the metal thickness would be at the bottom of the cylinder notches of an L-frame .45 Colt.

A 41 Mag version would make the most sense. I'm hoping S&W will think that too.

The cylinder notch doesn't effect anything on a 5 shot cylinder as it does not fall on a chamber. But, an L frame cylinder would be way to thin on the outer wall with current chamber pattern. The thickness between cylinders is actually thicker than on the model 29/629 guns. S&W would have a hard time moving the pattern inward to match those on the Taurus 5 shots because S&W uses a larger ratchet and if moved inward 45 colt rims or full moon clips would end up cutting into outer edges of S&W ratchet. S&W can't just make a smaller ratchet without moving the hand and its attachment to the trigger in. Plus the barrel would then need to be moved down in the frame and you would have a very thing forcing cone. Lots of problems to make it happen and not that big of market.

I don't see how it could be made for a cartridge any larger dimensionally. There are some slightly smaller ones that might be interesting, though. The .41 Mag has been asked about since the 69 appeared, and I think it would sell.

I'd like to see a 10mm. I also think the .38-40 in this gun could be fun for handloading experimenters (OK, maybe just two or three, but those guys would have fun).
