Default HELP - Need to identify a revolover & date

My S&W is a Hand Ejector. I don't know if it is after 1980 or not. Inside on the frame next to the yoke it has an X and then below that it has 22491 Then on the yoke it has 22491 with a large D below it. There is a serial number on the bottom of the butt or grip that is 99765 and it is a 38 S&W Special CTG. The barrel is 3" with a fixed front sight and no rear sight. I don't know if one used to be there but is missing? ANd, the blued frame appears to have only 2 screws. It is not a large frame gun and I need help with what I have? Thank you!

10-19-17 There IS a 3rd screw under the wood grip. The gun is a 5 shot and there is not any letters before or after the 99765 serial number. Trying to figure out how to add pictures.

We need photos to help. 22491 is an assembly number. Two screws, is the third under the grip? 99765 any letters?

So far what you are describing is before 1980. Way before 1980.

It could be a Model 36 Chiefs Special from about 1956. Does it look like this?

Default Model 56?

Model 36 - from 1956? Very similar - longer barrel. Diamond in wood grip.
