Default 686-6 timing issues

I purchased a used 686 plus at a gun show
and I noticed every once in a while the cylinder
stop doesn't lock up before the hammer locks
I called smith&wesson and they are sending me a
return lable.
I purchased this gun used.
it's a 2016 model.
my question is do you think they will charge me for the repairs with it having a lifetime warranty?
thanks

I doubt they will charge anything as long as there is no sign of serious abuse damage.

When you get the shipping label you can put the revolver in the blue case without grips if you want. Go to FEDEX and get a box that the blue box will fit in and ship it. As BIGWEELZIP said, if there's no evidence of abuse, they probably won't charge you.

It should be fine as long as nobody messed up the inside, and even then they could choose to fix it under warranty. I'd put the original grip on and write a clear description of the issue.

I sent a 686-6 in twice and it was an easy and quick process. Good luck.

I've got a few 686-6's and they are all very good in my opinion. My husband and I both carry them for woods walks. Once this hitch gets ironed out, you'll probably be happy with it.

There are many folks here on the forum who are fans of the "L" frame. Welcome to the forum.

thanks.
I love the smith revolvers and all I have read about the 686-6 has been great.
I will pay to get it fixed if I have to.
it is a sweet shooting gun and I love the feel of it.
I had a mod 629 and a mod 60 years ago and loved them.
when I seen the 686+ I had to have it

I bought a325pd 4" off gunbroker. Three of the chambers did what yours does. I called S&W & they sent me a pp shipping label. When the gun came back the paper work said replaced ejector rod/star replaced front locking bolt & center pin free of charge. Great CS.

I believe I found the problem.
the extractor where the hand contacts the little stars/notches...one of the notches on the extractor had a burr.
I gently removed the burr and now I can't get it to
malfunction like it was before.
I cycled it like 80 times with slight tenting on the cylinder and without tenting and it goes into full lock up every time now

You believe you found the problem... Respectfully, I would return the revolver to S&W anyway and have it looked at professionally. You don't know what the prior owner may have done inside the mechanism. He had a reason to sell it...

There may come a time when we have to do our own 'smithing. I am terrified that time may someday come; it will not be good. That time is not yet here. Send it back for your and the gun's piece of mind.

Perhaps you don't have a printer, but in case you were unaware of the option, S&W can email you the label for you to print and attach to the shipping box.

In the past, I've received the label email within a few minutes of calling them, which expedited the process.
