I am having issues with my 586-2. When I cycle the hammer back after several rotations it is sticking and won’t continue it’s motion of cocking back. I have to tap the right side plate and then i am able to go thru regular motions of cocking and shooting ???

It could be some old fashioned crud or a piece of debris inside but you will have to pop the Side Plate off to see what is happening. If that's not the problem check the Hammer Stud - might have broken off. If you are not adept at this I'd suggest visiting a GOOD LGS or sending it back to the Factory.

Loose side plate screws?

Try tightening them down.

I had to purchase # 34 screw on schematics as it was missing (it’s the way I received it after my brother-inlaw passed a way. So i tighten them and it works for about 8-10 rotations and then binds us, I tap side plate and god to go for another few rotations before it does it again. I cleaned inside and everything seems to flow in movement and I can see where a portion of the parts “move towards right side plate and it catches trigger mechanism . Wished I could show a picture on here

With side plate off, parts will shift and then be out of sync.

Look at side plate. Was it buffed way down or something
that allows innards to shift with plate on and screws
tightened down?

And when plate is on, are you sure it is seated (bottomed
out) snugly against the frame?

If it works for a short time, something is coming loose.

Was your relative a table top gunsmith who might have buffed
the individual parts as well?

Another thought is does the trigger return to reset vigorously
or is it sluggish? Trigger return spring might have been cut
or a very light one installed which doesn't allow full reset.

But really, the best bet is to send it back to Smith.

Sounds erratic so possibly there is debris in the works that occasionally is causing a bind up? It is possible to get a brass brush bristle that has become separated from a cleaning brush in through the hand window slot that can get lodged internally.
Is there any chance you have replaced the grips? Sometimes the location of new grip screw interferes with the mainspring. You could remove the grips and try to cycle the gun just as a simple check for function.

Could be a broken trigger stud. You might not even notice unless you take the trigger out. Often times when a gun is acting weird, that is the cause. Some problems are hard to diagnose long distance.

Very difficult, if not nigh impossible to diagnose "over the phone." We can't know what a prior owner may have done inside to "improve" the gun. By all means, try removing the grips and cycling the action, as ontargetagain suggested. Could be as simple as that. At the very least, have the gun examined by a competent gunsmith who can diagnose the problem hands-on. Sounds like something that is not simply going away. Good luck, wish you well.

Thanks to you fellas!! I do not know what if anything may have been done. Prior but will get it to a good gunsmith here and ask them to do a good go over. I sure they will be able to do it safely and I am not a gun smith so I love my “click bangs” and don’t want it to go boom �� for sure. I’ll see if I can get the picture on here and I believe I pointed with the screw driver at where I believe the problem lies but like I said I’m not a gun smith
