Agreed that 3" GP was my second choice when I choose my Model 60. For a while it was a toss up . Either would be a good choice>

My choice would be a M13 or M65 3" .357. That way you would have a full sized 6 shot .38 or .357 at your beck and call. That would be my minimum. If I had ANY doubts that my life was going to be in danger, I'd pack nothing less than 6 shots in a frame size that I'm familiar with.

Just my ramblings, your mileage may very. This is a non-Attorney spokes persons opinion, if you disagree. go away and placate ones self and hopefully you won't remember your password to get back into this website. Yes, I'm old, I know it, I disagree with it, but I'm stuck with it!

I like my S&W's but also my Ruger's and would say the GP100 would work fine.

Default Woods Carry Rig

Well, the weather is warming in the Northeast and Spring/Summer is approaching. I have made my final decision on this topic. My Ruger GP-100 3 inch short shroud, Simply Rugged Sourdough Pancake and belt loaded with Buffalo Bore 180 grain hard cast ammo. Hope everyone has a great Summer and gets outdoors!

Sounds like you made a good call. I was thinking 65 or 66 3" or 4"....or maybe a gp100 4"....all are nice guns, but I prefer s&w.

I don`t do that much walking out in the big woods, where I might have to spend the night much anymore. And I don`t have any Bears or Moose to worry about where I live. I am just to darned old for that now 74 yrs old. But I do still try to float the Rivers and Streams in my canoe a few times a year and camp out a few nights on some old familiar Gravel Bars . And I have always carried a S/A Ruger 45LC of some sort in a Shoulder Holster when I am doing this. And I really like a short barreled SS Ruger Vaquero in 45LC . However for the last several years I been carrying a 4 inch S/S Taurus Judge. I am not so worried about getting my Judge wet as I am about one of my Rugers. And it works like a champ for me. And I also carry in the canoe in a waterproof sleeve a M-1 Carbine or my old 303 British Carbine.
