S&W yoke screw question
Good morning!
What exactly is the threadlocking compound used by S&W on the yoke screw (I have also found it on the Mossberg MVP action screws)? You'd think it's Loctite - or Permatex - Red, mainly because it's... red ; ), but IMO it's not, because those 2 threadlockers look differently when dry.
Thanks!

It might be a nylon that is red in color. Not the permanent red loctite.

To my knowledge, S&W doesn't use a threadlocking compound . . .

Good question - why don't you call them and see if they will tell you. We would ALL like to know that information.

Right - not "nylon" - it's "dried up liquid".
Hopefully someone knows exactly what it is and will step up! : )
Thanks.

“Nylon patch” thread locker is one substance used that looks awful close to Smith & Wesson’s but just a guess.

Unless someone calls it will be speculation which you apparently don't want.
Stick around and you will find that a lot of speculation occurs here.

I have used Vibra-tite VC3, and I am almost sure that it is not what S&W is using. After it dries, VC3 is much duller in color than the bright red stuff on recent yoke screws.

I have also used Vibra tite VC3 and have not experienced the dulling of the color that you mention even after several days.

I have seen that same thread locker on car parts for years. I just figured it was an industrial secret like the fantastic paint they use on aluminum soda cans.

Thanks, Scott - it all contributes, even if only in a soft way ; )

I hope to change that one day - for now, I grew a conscience ; ) and emailed S&W - they'll probably blow me off, but if not, I'll report back!
