Default Price check, etc. on 686-6 Talo Exclusive

I've been offered a 686-6 Talo Exclusive 7 shot revolver. SKU 150712. Comes with box, papers, etc. Maybe from around 2010. Shot but not much.

Fella wants $800. for it. This is not what I normally go for but a newer piece may come in handy for some work on. I'm in Calif. so I figure about $100. more than most anywhere else. Bit I'd appreciate any opinions.

What, if anything makes it a Talo Exclusive? Meaning anything extra to it than a standard 686-6 with a 6" barrel?

Thanks.

That product code is for a Lew Horton offering.

Interesting because the box it came in had that SKU number on it and said Talo Exclusive on it as well.

Humm... that's what it said in the SCSW #4.

The TALO 3-5-7 models came out in Oct-2010 & had Product Codes 150853, 150854, & 150855.

They had unfluted cylinders.

Does the 150712 ??

.

TALO 3-5-7's

On pg. 326 of the 4th edition note it says "150712 6" stainless finish...7 shot...2010 TALO dist."

LOL, that's funny! Look on page #325, it says Lew Horton.

Appears the difference is the 686 and 686 Plus. The latter being the 7 shot.

Well you can't have the same code for two different models. Looks like page #325 has the wrong description for that code. Guess page 326 is right.

Talo Exclusives were a run with the special features TALO ordered.

So back to your original question I guess: how is it different from a regular 6" 686+ ??

.

PS: That code is the current 686 Deluxe. All I see is it has different grips.

Model 686 Deluxe | Smith & Wesson

I bought one of these new, a couple of years ago (my very first Smith). At the time, it was advertised as a Talo edition. Today, it is a 686-6 Plus Deluxe. I wonder if Talo spec'd anything other than the laminated rosewood grips. Like someone said, "it's a great shooter".
I paid $750 .

From what I can see the only difference is the stocks. Which possibly were first offered on those Talo editions.

Same product code as the "Deluxe".

"Elegant and functional, the Model 686 Plus Deluxe pairs the highly popular Smith & Wesson 686 revolver with elegant textured wood grips in the classic look. Chambered with 7 rounds of .357 Magnum, the all stainless steel Model 686 Plus Deluxe offers compact powerful protection, sport shooting and collecting all in one."

Model 686 Deluxe | Smith & Wesson

Normally I avoid anything called the "Deluxe". Twice I've stayed in motels named the "Deluxe". Once in Sandy, Utah (Deluxe Motor Court) and another time in Barstow, Ca. ("Deluxe Road Inn"--billed itself as the "Ritz of the West", it had plastic curtains.) Bad things happened in both. I got food poisoning eating the $2.50 "Deluxe Special of the Day" liver and onion plate in a Denver restaurant years back.

Anything that has "elegant" and "Deluxe" in it's description, and several times for both, I need a "trigger warning" like the college folks.

I haven't bought the piece yet. I'll take a closer look.

Yeah and thanks. I noticed the MSRP is $899. Street price should be at least $100. less.

One thing I did notice about it was the recoil plate was quite smaller than older Smiths. It allowed between 1/4 to 1/3 of the cartridge head to show around the rim of the cylinder. With the cylinder closed a portion of the primer would be visible, or it appeared that way.

Most of those 686 models are still available from Davidsons at discounted prices.

Sometimes with the deluxe models all you pay more for is the grips.
Get it. The 6" + is a great gun!
