Default Picked up a 610 no dash 5” today

Just brought this home. I guess next step is to order moon clips? Where do I find these? I plan on firing some 40 cal too. No box, docs. Looks close to NIB, allegedly 36 rounds have been fired.

Can’t say I am in love with this, but I couldn’t pass it up.

Really nice! Congratulations!

Have you checked Dillon or Brownell's for the Moon Clips?

Best of luck with that wonderful 610!

I'm envious. The only 5" I've run across for sale locally had been ridden hard and put back in the stable wet. You even got the original stocks.

Ranch Products makes most of the steel moon clips including those sold by S&W. Buying 100 direct makes the cost per clip a whale of a lot lower. Unless they've changed you have to buy them by phone rather than through their web sight. If no one else posts their number fairly soon then I'll hunt for it.

CONGRATULATIONS---THAT'S A BEAUTY......

I WOULD CHECK OUT RIMZ, FOR MOON CLIPS IN THAT CALIBER. THEY ARE MADE OF A FINGER FRIENDLY, FLEXIBLE, MOLDED POLYMER. THEY ARE DURABLE, HOLD AMMO SECURELY, AND CAN BE LOADED AND UNLOADED WITHOUT TOOLS........

Mine will shoot 10mm without moon clips, if you don't want to wait for some to arrive. MidwayUSA has Ranch Products moon clips, too. I got a removing tool from Brownells that works really well and I have found that the 10mm clips can be loaded by hand rather easily.

Oh, by the way, the 5 inch is very hard to come by and you have a beauty. Mine is very accurate and fun to shoot. I would advise you check it out for awhile before parting with it as it will be very hard to replace. I had loaded some .40 S&W ammo in what was later determined to be brittle brass that was not a good idea to shoot in a Glock. I kept that ammo for almost 20 years looking for a Smith 610. I finally threw it away and a 610 showed up two weeks later!! Must be a lesson there somewhere!

I believe that k22fan is correct in stating that the moon clips supplied with the gun were made by Ranch Products. You can find their phone number and ordering instructions here...

HOME | Ranch Products

Ranch products are probably the most cost effective clips available.

TK Custom also has clips for the 610, albeit more expensive ones. You decide if they're worth it - they may be if you intend to compete with this gun, although you would probably do so with .40 S&W ammo which should work fine with cartridge wiggle in the clip.

RIMZ does make clips for 10 mm N-frames, but for the earlier ones (610 ND and 610-1) they need to be trimmed. IIRC, when they first became available for the .45 ACP they also needed to be trimmed for certain models (I don't believe this is still the case) and the trimming was a PITA.

Revolver Supply, usually a good source for moons, do not offer clips for the 610.

Adios,

Pizza Bob

I got a longer barrel one about 5 years ago. It is a joy to shoot. Factory 40s are like shooting target 38 loads out of a Model 27. Factory 10s are about like 158gr 357s out of a N frame. Good luck with it!

I got my first 610 used in the mid 90's for $290 OTD. It had laid in the case at my LGS for over six months and nobody even sniffed it. I even passed over it for quite a while before I came to my senses. Same shop got another one in on trade less than a year later and I snagged it for $350. They were both 6-1/2 inchers. I ended up trading one for a 5", and foolishly(?) sold or traded the other one.

My first one was the best shooting revolver I ever owned. At 50 yds off a rest, it could put 6 rounds into a quarter sized holes all day long. That was with a 2X scope.

I see ridiculous asking prices for 610's, but no evidence of any actually selling lately. What's fair market value for a 610 no dash these days?

Mark

My 5 inch no dash with the original grips sold for $1500 on GunBroker late last year. No box, I shot it way more than 36 times, but it was still in really good shape. I doubt they are any less expensive now. Great shooter but my M69 is a better match for what I want in a revolver.

Not sure why Photobucket is still working for me.

That's a excellent score coach. I have been looking for a Model 610 here in CA for about a decade and they are as scarce as a conservative politician here.

Congrats, nice looking 610 there. 5" would be my preference too if I found one at the right price.
That said, I did find my own 610 this past fall. Like you, I'm not sure that I will ever love it, but they are scarce enough so that when a clean one came along at the right price, I had to find out. Here is my 6 1/2" original production model as found in a local dealers case last Halloween.

p.s. I run ranch products clips in all my moon clipped revolvers. They are inexpensive, available everywhere (even on "thEbay") and work well. Search "moon clips" here for lots of discussion on brands, sources , tools etc.

My 610, is a nice field revolver. What's great, is that it can be loaded, according to your desired application. I have a new 4" 610 in the box, that I was lucky-enough to grab a few years back. I would like to see Ruger, or Dan Wesson add a DA 10-mil revolver to their stable.

While not in a snubby version (yet), Ruger just did add a 10mm option to their Redhawk line. A friend has one and has been very impressed with it.

PS. Nice looking revolver you have there!

Thanks, for the update Dave. Redhawk is nice, but a little overkill for me. A factory GP-100 with a four-inch bbl. would be the perfect ticket.

Looks like this 10mm; 3" bbl. Ruger GP-100 Talo is going to find a home, right next to my Lew Horton 610.
