Used revolver info
Can you help me find the manufactured date for a used revolver I picked up today? It's a 686-6 , serial number crz 51xx,7 shot 357 with a 6 inch barrel and red wood grips.

Your box might be old enough to have a special order number on its end label. Those were actually the Julian date the gun was boxed. The decade was omitted. 1234 would have been the 234th day of 2011. I do not know how long ago that practice was discontinued.

Welcome to the FORUM! You should enjoy your 686! I have a 4" 586 no dash, 6",-3 (686) and a 5" Pro Series, 686-6. Pro Series is not traditional enough looking for my normal taste. I saw it at the gun show, and HAD to have it! Bob

If you're first smith revolver is a 686-6 then be prepared. That's how I got started too. Now 3 years later I can't count all mine off the top of my head.

Most likely shipped in .....
November - December 2011.
The standard 6-inch 7-shot -6 was product code 164198.
The 7-shot -6 Deluxe, with fancy wood grips, was 150712.
The grips themselves were the only real difference.

Thanks, that's what I figured late 2011. It's flawless . An awesome gun .im happy I bought it , was doubting myself. Never owned a revolver ,always thought it was overkill.but it's awesomely accurate, never got such good groups with my automatics.
