586 2 1/2" Gun Show Find
Never thought I'd run across my ultimate 2 1/2" 586-4 search but it happened today at local gun show. It was actually purchased by a friend during show set-up from someone not knowing exactly what they had and he in turn sold it to me. No box but in superb condition. Couldn't be more pleased. Not sure if I paid too much but I was happy to get it for $2000 knowing I'd probably never run across another one.

I got mine for $750 five years ago and was told that I paid too much. I guess I bought it just right!

Don't think I'd have been willing to shell out $2k but it sure is nice and I've never seen another. Not to say it isn't worth $2k, or more. Now that I know they exist I'll be on the lookout for one. Enjoy it.

If the guy your friend bought it from didn't know what he had, how did it get to be $2000.00?

Good question! I don't even won't to know what my gun show friend gave for it and would't even ask. I just knew what I was willing to pay. Guessing he paid somewhere in the $1000 range based on conversation I had with him on how he acquired it. You may think...$1000 profit!!! What kind of friend is that? He said he had other offers as good as mine but she went home with me. This fella has gained my trust over the years I've known him.
I first met this friend several years ago at a gun show where I sold him a Python for $2000 that I had $900 in. In my mind we are somewhere close to even now.
Maybe this only makes since to me but I now have a hard to find 586 that I'd choose over a Python without hesitation.
Shoot...Have you ever just gave in to the little guy on your shoulder that says "Do it"? Well...I did

CONGRATULATIONS---THAT'S A BEAUTY ! ! !
I'VE NEVER SEEN ONE IN PERSON, AND I DON'T RECOLLECT EVER SEEING ANOTHER ONE POSTED ON THIS FORUM.......
THE STING OF THE PRICE WILL SOON BE ERASED BY THE PRIDE AND JOY OF OWNERSHIP......

I'm guessing you were at the AGCA show in Hoover. I looked at the gun Saturday.
Congratulations on getting a nice one.

Price sometimes means nothing when it's something you're truly want (and have been waiting for what seems like forever). Congrats on a fine looking and rare revolver not to mention the socks it's wearing.

I read it on here and I live by the words - Buy the gun, not the deal. If you have to pay a little extra for what you want then you're gonna be happy when the end result is.......you have what you want. I spend more time thinking about the ones I didn't buy than the ones I might have spent a little too much on.
I have gotten some good deals and then again I have some guns that weren't good deals. I don't think any differently about any of the good deals, I'm just grateful to have all of them.

Lets look at some of the other things one could buy with $2000.
One fourth of a stainless Rolex diving watch or
A well used Freedom Arms revolver or
250 six packs of beer or
30 cartons of cigarets. I am not sure about the cost of the smokes. They were about a buck a pack when I quit, and 21 cents when I started.
Also, one radiation treatment on a cancerous lung. About 40 needed.
My experience on the last is second hand.
I would take the S&W revolver by preference.
Best,
Rick

Rick,
Thanks for putting things in perspective. I'm now thinking this 586 needs a 2 1/2" 686 brother.
About the Rolex...I did find a deal on one in Tijuana several years ago for $15.00. I'm still wondering how that nice watch turned my wrist green after wearing it for 15 minutes.

I have seen them go for over $2,500 on gunbroker so I would say you are still in the black. These are quite scarce guns

There is a 3 inch 586-4 on GB with 6 days left,
bidding at over $4k
What's happening with prices these days?

Another classic case of more money than sense. Also known as greed. I suspect a whole lot of the people paying these obscene prices are not collectors but are thinking they will make a quick buck re-selling in the near future.
