Model 610 dilemma
Well, now that I own a beautiful example of the 4” model 610 with only 79 rounds fired, in original box with cleaning tools, etc., I find myself wondering if I should continue to shoot it or sell it to a collector.
I’m not a collector and all my guns are shooters so I hate to de-value by continuing to shoot it. What to do? Does it loose value by continuing to shoot it? There is barely a visible turn line so it looks almost new in the box.
What say you?

In the grand scheme of things, is a couple Benjamin’s worth getting excited about? It’s been shot so any damage has been done; despite this, it will still appreciate. Just shoot it and take care of it. Future buyers won’t know if you shot it 79 times or a thousand. Enjoy and relish the fact you have one and many wish they did - that’s worth a couple hundred $$

You own a holy grail for many but why would you care about some collector that will only hide it away for another generation? Most guns are tools that were designed and produced for use. If you box it up and hide it for another 40 years, you will certainly make a profit... but will have been deprived of enjoying using it.

Luckily, my 610 has a few more rounds through it, so I don’t have this issue.
How much do you enjoy shooting it?
What are you going to buy in it’s place?
I dunno, no right answer, more of an economic answer. Do you want the cash, or a cool gun.

I shoot the heck out of mine. At least a couple of boxes a month. I stay away from the hot stuff though, mostly PMC and Armscor stuff at 1100 to 1150 fps. And I swapped out my factory combats for some round to square Altamonts and keep the factory grips put away in the safe to keep them from getting dinged up.

Who cares about price later! You bought it to enjoy didn't you?..........IF you wear it out think of all the joy it brought you.......After all guns are only machines. Meant to be used. I use all of mine. I could care less what they "bring" after I'm gone.

What does it take to begin to wear out a M610. 5,000 to 10,000 rounds of SAAMI spec ammo? It could be shot quite a lot, say under 1,000 rounds, before it would significantly lower the value.

Shoot it!
Look at the direction the gun industry is headed. Try to find someone under 40 who isn't into plastic. (Yes, I know there are exceptions, but not many) We older guys who appreciate quality are getting fewer every day. If you don't shoot it, you're depriving yourself for no good reason. There's a pretty good chance you'll be the last person to truly appreciate it.

79 rounds fired? Are you sure it wasn’t 80? Or 78?
Who cares! I’d shoot it often, and not even bother keeping track.

Many thanks to all who replied. I sort of expected these answers and they only reinforce my decision to keep it.
I’ll probably install a set of Hague’s to keep the grips from damage and shoot the medium power loads only. I like PPU for range use and plinking.
Thanks folks,

Guns are NOT an investment. If gun control comes on big time, and they pass laws like the did in NY you can keep your gun (Assault Rifle) but you can't sell it and must destroy it or turn in to the police or sell it out of state, you will loose all your value. If the no sell rule was nationwide you loose 100% of you value you know?
Just USE it and shoot it. Enjoy it.

610s' in any condition only increase in value. As 10mm is currently in a resurgence in popularity, there's gonna be less 610s' to acquire for the new 10mm shooters.
Glock,EAA,Para,Sig,RIA,Ruger,Remington have 10mms' in production. There will be no more S&W 10mms(610s' and 10XX series) made. S&W could start making 10mms' again, but you know they won't be like past production.

The joy I felt when I found and purchased my 610 was surpassed when I shot it and found out what a great gun it is. Mine is the 4 inch barrel like yours.
Could I ever be lucky enough to find one of the other dash models with a different barrel length at an affordable price? Well a guy can dream can’t he.

I hated mine at first, but that quickly changed after I shot it a couple times. I paid something like $550, and thought I'd gotten taken. That was 2001 I think. I understand it's worth 3x that, now. It's the only 10mm I've ever owned. I simply had to buy some 10mm dies, so I can shoot it more. As mentioned before it's a "Grail Gun", that most serious shooters would love to have in any condition. You won't hurt the value by shooting it.

Yeah, it's lost all it's value - might as well sell it for the measly sum you can get for it now....TO ME!!!!

I don't know...might want to lock that gun away. Eventually, it will be worth more than the $50,000 pickup in the driveway.
Or, you can shoot it all you want and it will STILL be worth more than the truck someday.

Pulled out my Lyman digital trigger pull gauge this morning and checked the single action pull, 3 lbs. 2 oz. average on 10 pulls, WOW! I knew it was light but thats really really light. I should have checked the DA pull, will probably do that tonight.

I was wondering when someone would get around to "Choot it!"
But I consider that as good advice as any I have received.
