Who Said You Can't Go Home Again, Then My Dealer Called
Back in the late 1990's I ordered a 617-1 4" with white outline, green Hi-Viz sights, from my (now closed) S&W stocking dealer and for some foolish reason let it go. I got a call from my current dealer who called to say he took in two revolvers, one a mint 6" Model 16-4 and a 4" 617-1 which was like new with box and docs etc. When he told me about the Model 617-1, I had a feeling it was (and turned out to be) my long lost revolver (pictured below). I had saved one last new pair of S&W factory round butt combat grips just in case I found the right gun, which I did and they are now pictured on my returning Model 617-1. I thought about also getting the Model 16-4 ($950), but settled on returning my Model 617-1 back home.

Paul Harvey couldn't have done a better job telling, "The rest of the story." Thanks for sharing it, and congratulations.

Good effort, but a job only half done. You need to go back and get the 16-4 before someone else does. That's a good price at $950 and you might be able to do a little better for buying two. Last one I saw on GB went for $1500, which is high, but I wouldn't be able to resist anywhere in the $900 range. S&W should have continued the combat stocks for the four inch guns! Good luck and enjoy the 617-1.

As my local newspaper once published as a front page headline - “Unexpected Surprise” . Enjoy and don’t sell it again!

I'd call that a boomerang gun. What great luck and a great story.

Darn gunpushers. They always have your gun of choice. I've had 6 Model 19's, 2 2/2", 2 4", 2 6". They're gone now. A fool is born every minute!

Every piece of the puzzle goes where it belongs at the right time. Congratulations! You may now add good memories about waiting and search. The roads leading to a goal are at least as valuable and rewarding as the goal itself, while a new Graal may appear ....
