Model 36-3inch

I've been looking at a few model 36 3inch revolvers. One has a RB one has a SB- when did smith switch from the SB to the RB? When did they start and stop making the 3 inch?

Both round butt and square butt were available at the same time for many years.

I believe you'll find the 3" started with a round butt as a Baby Chiefs Special in the 2X serial number range in early 1951. My database doesn't show a square butt Chiefs with a 3" barrel until later in the 1950s. I do have a 2" square butt that shipped in January '55. Perhaps somebody else has a more definitive date for a 3" with a square butt.

According to the SCSW 4th Ed the square butt and 3" likely ended in '95/'96.
