Default 686-6 11760 Trigger Questions

Hello, I purchased a S&W 357 magnum, 5", 7 shot, revolver a couple of weeks ago and really like the gun. I did notice there is a screw built into the back of the trigger running parallel with the trigger. What function does this trigger screw serve? I had planned to buy a kit and while installing it polish the internal very well. I am a trigger snob, sorry. A good trigger makes a gun for me. If anyone has any suggestions, please share them with me. I would greatly appreciate them.

Thank you,

Brad

They had some extra parts laying around so someone decided to stick them on the trigger.

Actually it's a trigger stop.

Earlier guns had a slot cut in the frame and a machined piece was installed with a screw. It's designed to stop reward travel of the trigger as soon as the hammer drops off the trigger.

Many removed the stop because the screw could come loose.

New models have the stop installed on the trigger like yours.

On the ones I've seen, that isn't a screw, it's a roll pin pressed in and cut off. Every one I've ever seen was too short to be useful as a trigger stop. You can pull it out and put in another one, cut too long, then work it to length to work correctly. That's what this trigger snob does.

Also, the single and double action have different release points so the trigger stop has to be set to one or the other. I fix that by setting the stop to work for the DA. Then the SA won't work, so I stone the length of the SA part on the trigger shorter until it works too. Then they both work with one trigger stop.
