S&W M66-2 4" Grip ?, Opinions Wanted
I hope I have the correct Forum, I date this M66-2 to 1984, Please move if that is incorrect.
This has been a ongoing question in my mind due to my typical purchase being a shooter grade without box or papers. My question pertains to the grips as my inclination is to sell them to help finance a nice pair of after market finger groove grip style that fit my hands better. I know these non numbered original grips have value but since I don't have a collectible package is it a mistake in the aspect of resale not to have these grips to offer and is there a dollar amount you deduct for not having the originals whether they be numbered or not. This question arises every time I sell a pair although if they were numbered I would be inclined to keep them. Also what is a good value for these, it seems the last pair I sold 5 years back fetched $75 bucks on Ebay although I will be selling them on the Forum this time. Thanks for your feedback.
***The last photo shows the little bit of finish loss these grip have along with a few small spots on the butt.

Grips were not numbered at the build date of your gun. And yes they would give a much better value and resale to the gun.

I have a 66-2 on lay-away at my LGS, but it has rubber grips on it. Yours are exactly what I would put on mine. I love the target grips.
When negotiating on the purchase of a used smith, I always use that fact that it doesn't have original grips as a bargaining point. But, I am a cheapskate. I think the true effect of not having the original grips depends on the person buying the gun more than anything. Although, if the original grips are with the gun, you would have a larger audience looking at the gun.

well I shoot my guns, not put em in a safe so my grand kids can pawn em ,, which is probably what happens to most of these gun "collections"
Grips only add or subtract value if I like them,, sell em get ones u like shoot the gun.
If you worried about value open a mutual fund account

Unfortunately, your stocks are not of attractive wood figure and are, as you pointed out, a bit rough around the edges. Yes, they would make the gun a tad more valuable but if I were buying it, I would plan on buying a much more attractive set for it as I have for almost all my pre-IL, pre-MIM S&W revolvers.
But the gun's condition is far more important than that of the wood and that's what you should be concerned about. It looks very nice to me and I own multiple 66-2s.
