A Value Estimate please.

S&W Model 625-5 45Colt 5 inch Barrel, Stainless
Steel, circa mid 1990's model.
Used, defiantly used, with what looks like some
frost corrosion marks on outside of top Strap.

Handling marks or small handling scratches on
side of Top Strap and Barrel.

Small gouge in the ridged lines on the back side
of grip frame. Black Rubber S&W Medallion Grip
gaps (probably grip screw to tight).

Crane/Yoke pivot area, small nicks. Gap is ok.
Plate screws not bummed up. Muzzle ok, Bore clean,
Forcing Cone a little leaded up. Cylinder and all locks up
like they should. Charge holes Ok.

No engraved Cylinder Ratchet impression on Recoil
Shield. No Cylinder Slot Bolt Stop peening, they look
nice. Hammer Firing Pin, Ok, not scratched. Trigger
not Scratched.

No Canted Barrel. Sights, a little wear. Rear Sight
centered. Nicks/wear marks on Front Sight.

Laser Id markings, Ok. Has the Front Sight
that the Blade can be switched out.

No Box, No Paperwork, No Brown/moisture wicking
paper, nothing.

Defiantly used.

What say you?

Attempting to open and/or repost your image only give me a very small image and attempting to enlarge it make the detail so poor as to make it worthless.

Based upon your description the gun may be in very good condition although most stainless steel revolvers that haven't been abused probably clean up to excellent or near excellent condition so that said I'll have to guess the condition as very good or maybe between very good and excellent.

The SCSW, 4th edition, lists the following values for the Model 625:
ANIB (As New In Box) $1000
Excellent $750
Very Good $600
The SCSW also states 1550 of the Model 525-5 were manufactured in .45 Colt in 1993 as a stocking dealer special with serial prefix SDS.

There is no discussion in the SCSW about extra value for this particular variant of the Model 625 but I think it would be safe to assume many folks would assign additional value to this particular revolver in .45 Colt versus the .45 acp which is the caliber in which most Model 25's and 625's were produced.

Sure enough. A quick look at Gun Broker for successfully completed auctions (i.e. the gun actually sold) reveals the following prices for the Model 625-5 in .45 Colt:
$1502 - ANIB to excellent with original box
$2000 - ANIB to excellent with original box
$1500 - ANIB to excellent with original box
$1275 - Excellent with original box

Here's the odd thing. All of the Model 625-5 (stocking dealer specials) in .45 Colt that sold on Gun Broker had a full lug under the barrel but the picture you show is only a partial lug. Looks like a bit of a mystery to me. I hope I'm not opening up a can of worms. The 625-5 in .45 Colt I find in the SCSW (Standard Catalog of Smith & Wesson), 4th edition does NOT clearly state if this was a full lug or partial lug gun. Company just arrived so I need to leave this mystery at this time.

In the condition of "Defiantly Used" that's what
I figure. I think even $800 is pushing it.

I will pass for now, and wait for something in better
better shape.

g8rb8, I am sorry for the confusion about
the Revolvers.

The Revolver I am asking about is a 625-5
45Colt 5 inch barrel with Full Under Lug. It is Used, not
in anyway Excellent or Very Nice appearance.

The Picture I showed is what the Revolver
is not. That is what I usually shop for.
It is a 629 44Mag Mountain Gun that was
a Safe Queen when I bought it.

Every now and then one pops up on gb in top condotion. I recall final bidding at $1350 in the past year for the 5” gun in question.

Then I think we can safely say what you're looking at is the stocking dealer special of the Model 525-5 in .45 Colt fromm 1993. 1550 were made and it should have serial prefix SDS.

If it's been "defiantly used" I would guess it's value to be that of an N-frame "shooter grade" (i.e. functions well but cosmetically challenged) which nowadays seem to be roughly $600.

When I can inspect and handle a S&W Revolver before
deciding to buy, I don't mind paying a premium price
depending on Condition.

If that S&W 625-5 45Colt would have been a Safe Queen
with Box/Instructions/pamphlets/Paper/no Lock or Lock,
(like the picture I showed of the 629) I would have paid
up to $1300.

Unfired and came with all the pieces.
It is fun to shoot, I have a good Reload for it using a
240gr Lead RNFP and Alliant American Select powder.

I have a 625-5 that I bought new many, many moons ago. Still have box, papers, etc. Did a trigger job on it to smooth out DA and to lighten SA pull, as I used to shoot bowling pins. Has rubber grips and I have a set of Hogue "exotic hardwood" stocks for it. I have around a dozen full moon clips for it, most of which are stainless steel

Never did get to shoot as much as I would have liked, (work interfering with my free time sorta thing) Bet it doesn't have 1,000 rounds total. Other than that and needing a good cleaning it is in great shape.

Being as I am in the process of selling off my accumulation of firearms, I do have a couple of questions. Should I have the trigger job reversed, prior to offering for sale? What is a fair price range? Where is the best place to sell such a gun?

I agree it sounds like the 625 Classic Stocking Dealer Special

It sounds like the revolver in question is wearing the correct factory supplied grips.

Those 625s often carry a premium because of the 45 Long Colt chambering. They seldom come up for sale on the secondary market.

It is hard to make a vaule judgement on just a description with no photos

If I had the opportunity to "Shooter Grade" 625 Classic and I did not already own mine, I might go as high as $800. Afterall most blemishes can be easily buffed out of stainless and I do really love the 45 Long Colt cartridge

They sure don't come up very often. I've been trying to find one for quite a while and every time I do, it's outside California and I can't get it shipped in because it's not on the CA list of authorized handguns. I have a 629-6 5" Classic and I'd really like the same revolver in .45 Colt which would be a 625. If I were buying it in CA, it doesn't have to be on the list.
