Hi Guys,

I picked this up this weekend and think I got a sweetheart deal $585.00 with the box, docs and tools. Box matched the gun as does the sticker on the box. SN

It looks brand new to me. May have been fired but not much if at all. I didn’t get any residue when cleaned with Hoppes #9.

Whom ever owned this gun took really good care of it.

This is my second 6” K frame. I’ve fallen in love with this and my 14-2. I may have to buy a 6” M19 next.

You got a great .22 for a great price! A few years ago I paid Cabela's about $700 out the door for a 6" 17-4 that had neither the barrel pin nor box. However, I believed it was unfired. As evidenced by the lead on the bottom of your top strap over the B/C gap yours was shot some. That hardly mattered since I took it straight to a bullseye match. Enjoying it right away justified paying more than I might have been willing to pay other wise. Even more important I liked the early carry up and feel of the DA on mine. It wasn't my best year but despite being out of practice I kept my scores in Expert.

I suggest you do what I neglected to do before firing mine, dull the top edges of the cylinder stop. That nearly stops the normal drag line from developing. Your drag line is very light. It's very simple. I use a small translucent super fine Arkansas sharpening stone. In hind sight I should have fired a different K-22 the first night.

K-22s need more frequent cleaning than many other .22s but their tight tolerances help make them accurate. Have fun with yours.

That is a beautiful revolver and a great price! I wish I had bought one back when my eyesight was good. The 17 is a classic!

$585 with all the extras, were you wearing your Jesse James mask? Great buy and a great revolver. I have a 17-4 with an 8 3/38" barrel, great shooter and I'm sure yours is too. Enjoy it!

One of the best S&W's you can ever buy. A workhorse for plinking, competition and teaching. If yours is afflicted with difficult extraction as many are (tight tolerances) it can be cured by having the chambers recut with a Standard Finishing reamer. Search the forum and there are several articles about this.

Thanks for the reinforcement - I do that for all my Smiths. Sometimes the edges of the stop are very sharp, and light stoning and then polishing with 600/800/1000 grit wet and dry of just the edge and the crown stops it from being a router on the cylinder. I use the wet and dry because I don't have a small stone that fine.

To replace a Model 17 I let go of a couple of decades ago, I too just bought a 17-4 off of GunBroker, but I paid $800 for mine without any extras. I'm taking my 17-4 to the range today to shoot it for the first time. Looking forward to seeing how well I can do with it.
