Default 28-2 value

I spotted a 28-2 near me and I need some input from the experts here! Has a turn line on the cylinder but otherwise looks good. Original box, grips appear original, and s&w vapor paper. No manual and no tools Serial number puts it around 1982-86 (N90xxx). What is a fair price for this? Thanks for the help!

Default 28-2 or 28-3?

I have a 28-3, S/N N9606XX....if the one you are describing is a 28-2 and has a five digit S/N, it is older than 1982-1986 vintage. My 28-3 was dated to 1982 vintage. As for price, here in CA I've seen them at the $700 plus price range at shows.

"Looks good" doesn't give us a lot of information as to condition. Barrel length? Four inch usually a premium to six inch. I bought the six inch below, much as you've described, probably 98%, from 1970 which was priced at $700 about a year ago. It was a trade so my actual cost was less but I would expect to find a nice one with original stocks/box/papers where I shop between $600-$800. Good luck.

Depending on barrel length, and a better description with pictures, $400 to $600 would be my guess.

Last June, I paid a hair over six hundred for an immaculate (excellent condition) Model 28-2 with a 4" barrel but had to add sales tax. I thought I got a decent deal. Seems prices are going up on these revolvers since then.

In upstate NY that would run you $800-$900.

At least $700, no matter what the barrel length is.

I have a lead on a 28-2 made in 1975. 6" barrel, no box. About 90% condition. Value?

Thanks!

I paid $599.00 for a 4 incher in Blue serial nr. Begins with an N. Have original grips but added cherrywood finger grooves from Cal-grips . No scratches , marks or turn line and I shoot it regularily.

Must be geographically driven, estimate here are much higher than actual selling prices in my area of Illinois,
unless they are trying to sell one or planning to sell theirs?

There was a 4 inch with box in excellent shape at a LGS near me and IIRC it was priced at $800. Hope this helps some. Not sure it’s still there, I thought it was a decent price for the shape and box, grips, etc.
