624 3" first rounds
Finally got to the range with the 1985 624 3" wearing ill fitting Pachs (the ones with the gap over the front strap in my other thread). Oh how I love 3" .44 Specials!!! The first pic is using Winchester .44spl 240 grain flat nose cowboy loads. The second pic, as noted, is using Sig Sauer 200 gr JHP VCrown ammo. Both were fired double action at 10 yards.
Couldn't be happier, great stock trigger, tons of fun.

Congrats - I love my 24-3 3 inch. Fitted mine with some VZ grips- am pretty happy with them, though may try some Altamont combats

Good shooting with a great revolver. I have the same gun in blue, still have the original grips on mine. I like your idea of shooting cowboys loads. I will have to find some and have some fun with a gun I have not shot in probably 20 plus years..

Thanks for the kind words. The older I get (61) the more I enjoy shooting revolvers-the majority of the types of guns I shot as a younger guy (all except for my beloved 1911s lol).
This one is really a ton of fun. The interesting thing is that the Sig ammo actually had less felt recoil than what I assumed would be the "softie" cowboy load.

Beautiful .44S&W Special... I bought my 3" barreled 629 with the intention of carrying .44Specials for street use and for range practice and .44Magnum for woods carry and range practice as well. I ended up actually enjoying the .44mag round and always put 4-5 cylinders of full house loads each range session and 5-6 cylinders of .44Specials.
For a comfortable and accurate .44Special factory load; it's hard to beat Winchester's 240grain LFP rounds loaded at 750fps.
PMC Bronze 180 grain JHPs are a favorite preference of mine too!
For around town/street carry, I fully recommend Gold Dots 200 grain Blazer Aluminum cased ammo sold in 50 round boxes. It's loaded a little hotter than advertised but that can be a good thing. It's very accurate, has plenty of pop, and you can shoot it all day long without much fatigue. And it ejects out of my 629 just as smooth as brass cased ammo.
Federal "Champion's" 200 grain semi-wadcutter HP's are a good choice as well.
