Question Classic grips on a M28?

Hey guys, before I place a WTB ad, I thought I would run this idea by everybody to make sure it would work in the first place.

I have been reading quite a bit about the "Classic" series, particularly the 29-10, and the much maligned skinny grips. I don't have really big hands, and stock target N frame grips are pretty big. I could go with magnas and a t-grip, but that feels too small. I am hoping for something right in the middle.

First off, I am assuming that the classic line is square butt and not round butt with conversion stocks. That would mess things up right there if round. If they are square butt, do they fit on the old style N frames?

Also, what would be a reasonable price for a set? I expect quite a range from "they're priceless because they are originals" to "should have told me sooner, I threw mine in the fire." Almost every thread I have seen on these new classics states the first thing the owner did was swap out the grips, so I imagine there are a few sets available out there somewhere.

What are your thoughts? Thanks in advance.

Default Classic grips on a M28?

They may have been offered both ways, round butt and square butt, depending on the particular model. It's best to be very specific with your Want To Buy request, just to be on the safe side.

Best of luck with your search.

I think I'll go with some Ahrends Retro Target. That looks like what I am going for, and I get to pick the wood.

Thanks, all.

I think you will like the Ahrends grips. They are well made and fit well. I find them to be a little on the thin / small side, But I have very large hands, and would bet they will fit you just fine. Pictured is a set on one of my 629's.

My 28 no dash was wearing Herrett Target stocks. (on my 25 now) I only have 1 set in N frame, and others in K/L. They are slimmer than factory targets (the old 1's). It sounds like your hand size is similar to mine. You can find them at gun shows or ebay. Bob

Take a look at Altamont's "Coke Bottle" grips. They have them for both square butt and round butt N frames. Here is a set on my Model 18 (K frame square butt). They are thinner than target grips and feel very nice in my hands.
