The next gun purchase for me is a K-22 Masterpiece. I would like to see any pictures of them that you are willing to share. Thanks!

Default 2 K22'S

HERE ARE TWO NEWLY ACQUIRED k22'S. IF SOMEONE CAN TELL ME A SOURCE BESIDES THE USUAL (FORUM AND EBAY) FOR THE PROPER GRIPS FOR THE 1955 (SN IN PHOTO) MODEL IT WOULD BE MUCH APPRECIATED. I WAS LUCKY TO HAVE RECEIVED THE 1948 GUN WITH THE CORRECT NUMBERED GRIPS, IT IS MY FAVORITE IN SPITE OF THE CONDITION BEING MORE ORGANIC. GOOD LUCK IN YOUR QUEST, I HAVE BEEN SEEING QUITE A FEW K22'S FOR SALE IN THE USUAL PLACES SO YOU SHOULD HAVE YOUR CHOICE OF SELECTION.

Here’s mine. I do have the original Magnas but much prefer shooting it with Targets.

Mine is a '53, best I can tell. It's far from collector grade, but a great shooter. I still want an 18 and a 617 pre-lock.

Here's one that dates to approximately 1947, five digit SN 142XX, sporting stag stocks along with the original woods, in its box.

DSCF3636.jpg

and a younger sibling from about 1953, six digit SN 1797XX, wearing original stocks and living in the original box.

DSCF3308.jpg

I picked both of these up within a week of each other from the same source. Once the seller saw I had interest and money, the second one appeared along with two boxes and a set of 'spare' grips that were numbered to the one with the stags.
I was overjoyed when the 'extra' stuff came up!

Best of luck with your search. There are lots of them out there, and patience will be your best buying partner.

Were the 50's vintage pistols available with Target and Service stocks? Were only the Service stocks numbered, or were both styles numbered? Does your 1955 have recessed cylinder?

I can't speak to your question regarding the stocks, but a good question I would also care to know since I plan to put as close to the originals on the 1955 model. This is my first foray into K22's that came about unintentionally, in the course of a week I purchased 2 that I just couldn't pass on.
As to the recessed cylinder question to my knowledge all S&W .22's are recessed.

I just last month bought a 17-4. Took it to the range and it's a great shooter!

S&W Model 17-4 "K22 Masterpiece" (all targets) in .22 Long Rifle

Thanks for looking at my 17-4.

God bless,
Birdgun

I just sold a 1951 pre-18 that had been bought by a friends uncle with target grips on it. They were not numbered and as far as I have read Smith never numbered Target grips to the guns only Magnas/Sevice style stocks...

Do 4" barrels count?

22 Combat Masterpiece from 1953

Model 18-4, from 1979 with target hammer, trigger, target stocks.

Sorry, I just have this "thing" about 4" barrels.

Default WHAT WERE ORIGINAL GRIPS

I AM MISSING THE STOCKS ON A K22 FROM 1955 THAT HAS A STANDARD HAMMER AND TRIGGER, WOULD THAT MEAN THAT THIS REVOLVER CAME WITH THE DIAMOND MAGNAS ? HOPE IT IS OK TO PIGGY BACK ON THIS THREAD BUT IT SEEMS RELEVANT TO SOME OF THE QUESTIONS BEING ASKED. THANKS

I only have the pretty ones photographed at the moment.

I really like the look of the Heritage series firearms.

The K-22 Masterpiece revolvers are on the right, 45LC Model 25s on the left

I also like the shorter K-22 Combat Masterpiece

I shoot the short ones much more frequently than the long ones

Then there is the K-22 Outdoorsman, but I do not carry this one

Great looking M18 and I like the Presentation stocks on it. Not sure about the choice of ammo, how does the Remington work for you? My impression was that it is a bit dirty from my past experiences.

I only have 1. 17-2 (1964) that I picked up last July. My 1st S&W .22 revolver. It was worth the wait! Just added these new to me stocks. Bob

Default K-22 Masterpiece Stainless Full Lug

Seems to me my Model 617 No Dash ought to be a part of this thread.

I rate the Remington CBEE22's as excellent at killing varmints. I've actually lost track of the number of raccoons and 'possums I've killed with this load. All I can say is, it's quiet and effective!

I actually don't have any experience to share regarding the other load shown in the above photos, the Remington .22 Long Rifle 22SUBSONIC's. They are definitely on the hotter side compared to the CBEE22's though. The figures are 40 ft./lb. at the muzzle for the CBEE22's, 740 fps MV, and 33 gr. hollow-point bullet vs. 93 ft./lb. at the muzzle for the 22SUBSONIC's with 1050 fps MV, and 38 gr. hollow-point bullet. I'm sure these figures are from a rifle length barrel as well.

Mine isn't pretty (cut down from a 6", and has a weird front sight), but it was cheap and it shoots okay.

Hi Rick

Here’s one I picked up a couple of months ago. There was some question about the gold bead fro t sight and the grips but the letter confirmed them.
