I have both with 3 inch barrels. They are great shooters, especially with the warmed up loads from Buffalo Bore.

I have a 24-3. Other than the cool factor and being a couple of ounces lighter I could live if I just had one of my 29/629 guns. Or my 69, for that matter. I shoot mostly specials in all of them.

But, Come On Man! It is a 44 special! What's not to love. 24/624= old style bluing or brushed stainless(old style bluing with better resistance to cleaning chemicals or on stainless guns, nicer than the newer bead blasted finish guns, in MHO) forged parts(I have new guns and the MIM parts work fine but they do not have the gravitas that forged parts have!) No extra holes or un needed parts.(read lock) They were built by people who were trained to build quality and not just parts assemblers (not to disparage the current employees, but it was a different world then.)

OH, and did I mention, ITS A 44 SPECIAL! Possibly the best and most accurate cartridge in its class!

You may have guessed that I have a passion for 44 specials as do many older shooters and many on this board!

There's a reason the two models you named are sought high and low. 44 Special will do 90% of what a 44 Magnum will do and yet it is superbly accurate and comfortable to shoot. I also have a Model 69 44 on a L Frame and I love it. 24s/624s are spendy and hard to find so I wish you well if you intend to search.

The .44 spl is a fantastic round, capable of excellent accuracy when loaded to target velocities and can reach near magnum power with the right loads.
It does require hand loading to achieve its potential, most factory loads are pretty lame.

These are my .44 spls
3rd model wolf and Klar 4"
24-3 6"
24-3 4"
24-4 Lew Horton 3"

What do I like about my 624/24-3s?? It's about the most fun you can have with your pants on!! Coincidentally, I just took my 6 1/2" 624 to the range today. I loaded some .430 LSWC and got pretty decent groups at 25 yds standing. I want to see what some .432 lead will do in this gun. I believe it'll make it a sho nuff tack driver!
I let my 696-1 tag along to eat the .429 plated rounds.
