New to me model 60-15
Super happy with my purchase today.
It is exactly what I have been looking for.
Can anyone give me a DOB?

Looks just like mine; made in Jan of this year.
I just ordered a set of Altamont grips for it. They are like the ones on the Pro model, except the texture is a little different. They are called ALTAI Snakeskin in "Super Rosewood". No S&W emblem. $50 plus shipping.
This is my "big" gun. My other two are 2 inch Centennials.

Mine is also a 2015 “CXX”-prefix serial number.
Shoots great and has been 100% reliable.
Easy to carry in a Milt Sparks VMII.

Thanks for the DOB. I figured it was fairly new. It does not look like it has been shot much at all.
Put 5 rounds of my light 357 handloads through it last night and it shoots like a dream.

Yes, the box for my 60-15 has the date printed on the label.....unfortunately, I am traveling on business and don’t recall the actual date. I’ve also learned on this forum how to read the “Spec. Order” number on 1980/1990’s vintage boxes such as the one which came with one of my Model 60’s. One question though, how does one distinguish between 1986 and 1996 when reading the code?
When did S&W actually start/stop this practice of dating handguns on the boxes?
‘6345’ = 345th day of 1986 (December 11, 1986)

The Julian date code started with the computer printed labels in the 80’s. You can distinguish the decade by the revision level and/or features. If the revision level transcends several decades, examine the gun.
-Barrel pins were deleted around 1982
-Forward sideplate screw (yoke retainer) was changed from fitted to spring plunger around 1988
-The pressed in cylinder stop lug was eliminated and replaced with an integral ledge stop around 1996
-The IL was added in 2001 (careful... some internal hammer guns are still produced w/o the IL)
- Guns that included a fired case envelope are easy to date!

A gun from '86 would be in a cardboard box. The '96 gun, the box was plastic. Looking at the box is usually the easiest way at a glance. Dash numbers work, also, but for that you need to know the dates of the dash numbers.
Regarding the 4-digit Spec. Ord. number. S&W began using it in the early '80's. About 1983. But they don't use a 4-digit Spec. Ord. number any more. Beginning in 2013 S&W went to a 6-digit number. Hence, I asked about a 6-digit number and even gave and example of one: 042717. That example would be, of course, April 27, 2017. The new code is a lot easier to decipher.
