Lefty,
BUH68XX I have dated at 09/1995, so I would say yours is dated prior to that. Don't have access to my SCSW right now, but maybe this info will help some.

My copy of the Standard Catalog of S&W estimates s/n series BPF to be from 1993.

If you haven't already found it out, you will like that gun a lot. As easy to conceal as the 442 and 642, but much more pleasant to shoot with +P ammo.

Thanks to all. Nice to know that it is an early 90’s. Got a great deal on this and couldn’t be more pleased. Great trigger and soft shooter. My 637 will see a lot less action.

Congrats on finding a good deal. IMO, the 640 (no dash) is one of the finest snub revolvers that Smith made for carry. I bought mine new about 25 years ago. If there ever comes a time I'm limited to one gun? The 640 is at or near the top of the list.

Default Dating a 640

When dating a model 640, just make sure you hide your model 29...so your better half doesn't use it on you..
