Help Identifying Year Of Production 624
Hello to all,
I am looking at a 4" 624 44 Special with the serial number of AHC39XX. Does anyone have an idea about when this guy was produced?
Thanks in advance,
Matt
I have been lurking here for a while and just realize that this is my first post. Thanks for all the knowledge here!

That s/n prefix was being used on new revolvers in..... September 1985 to March 1986.
Product code for you M624 was 103581.

There was a recall on 624’s and the serial number of the gun you’re looking at is one of the suspect guns. S&W didn’t mark guns that were inspected (magnafluxed), but the did stamp a red “C” in a circle on the box.
See this thread for more info: 624 Cylinder Recall. Today's official answer

Shoot, that's what I was afraid of. It comes with the original box and there is no Red C. I guess I'll have to pass on this one. Thanks for all the help!

Why would you pass if the price is right? There's nothing wrong with those guns, read the previous posts. If a 44 mag round won't fit in the cylinder you should be good to go. I have two, certainly wouldn't part with either of them. Good luck.

I will have to go back through all the threads and read some more. It was my understanding that metallurgy of the cylinder was faulty and thus weak. I did not read any post about being able to chamber a .44 mag rounds.
The gun is very special to me because it belonged to a man who I respect deeply. He was an pilot in WWII, an engineer, and an all around renaissance man. He taught me how to reload and was just a fine gentleman. I actually sold the gun to him in the early 90's and it still has the paperwork written out by me.
After thinking about it today, I was going to still buy it, just because of the history. I would love to shoot it though.
I will do some more research on this particular model.
Thanks for all the help,
Matt

Read all the old posts, especially comments from Roy Jinks. I think you'll conclude there is no problem. Both of mine are from the "problem sn range" but both were confirmed by S&W to be fine and neither is marked in any way. Good luck.

My 4" from that era has never been "checked" and has performed flawlessly ever since. In other words not a big deal if the gun has worked since the mid 80's.
