What are my pre-lock revolvers worth? (617 no dash 6" and 66-5 2.5")
Good morning fellas,
I have 2 S&W revolvers I am trying to value as it's time to thin the herd! I have a 617 (.22LR) no dash, pre-lock, 6 shot, 6" barrel, with Altamont Rosewood grips and a fiber optic front sight. Gun is in good shape and a tackdriver! My other is a 66-5 (.357/.38 special) pre-lock 2.5" barrel that has been gone thru by a local gunsmith. It has had the cylinder chamfered, and a very nice trigger job. He also bead blasted the whole thing. It sports a pair of Altamont boot grips. I am just trying to get a good idea on what a fair price to sell them for?

The "sold" side of GB is a good place to get an idea of current prices. Where I shop I'd expect the 617 to be $700-$800 (a couple hundred more if with the combat stocks that I think came on it). Maybe $600 for the 66-5. Asking prices at gun shows would likely be higher but the last 2.5 inch 66-2 I bought was $475 although a couple years ago. Both nice guns, good luck.

Jeff,
Thanks for the reply! I was looking everywhere and prices are all over the board for sure. I was thinking $5-600 for the 66 and $6-800 for the 617, so I am in the ballpark.
Thanks,
Brian

Not to be contrary but I have been shopping for a M66 or M19 2.5" no box or paper at 90% + condition on GB the past 6 months and feel strongly that $600 would be closer to the starting price for your revolver and would be surprised if you couldn't sell it closer to $700. Condition, good luck and timing are also at play and a listing with a minimum of 20 photos and a detailed description is always a cut above most on this site and will yield a better payday. If you have never tried Guns International I would also check them out as you can sell for a flat $12 and post 12 photos. This model S&W puts you in the drivers seat. Good Luck

I have tracks on both models, maybe a bit out of date. Here ya go:
Smith & Wesson 617 Plus 6 in barrel Revolver in .22 LR. Blue Book of Gun Values (38th Edition) indicates between $615 in 95% condition and $735 in 100% condition for this gun. I have 92 recorded prices for this model gun from $350 to $1300 over a period of 14 Yrs 8 Mos ending May 2, 2018. The average price as of that date was $592. No refurbs, no refinishes, regular sights. All represented as 95% or better. No distinction for import location or engineering revision, if any, no special editions, no distinctions for box, papers, tools. Current or last MSRP is $829. The last 10 prices I have for this model since 4/30/2017 range from $545 to $1300 averaging $865.
Smith & Wesson 66, 2-1/2 inch barrel. Revolver in .357 Mag. Blue Book of Gun Values (38th Edition) indicates between $578 in 95% condition and $(no value given) in 100% condition for this gun. I have 111 recorded prices for this model gun from $423 to $1095 over a period of 6 Yrs 2 Mos ending January 7, 2018. The average price as of that date was $710. No refurbs, no refinishes, regular sights. All represented as 95% or better. No distinction for import location or engineering revision, if any, no special editions, no distinctions for box, papers, tools. Current or last MSRP is $614. The last 10 prices I have for this model since 3/7/2017 range from $575 to $925 averaging $782.
