Default 27-3 Stainless Steel ported and 586 Satin Nickel???

Hi all, came across a couple of unusual pre-lock items for sale down under in Australia that I thought some members may have insight into.

Their serial numbers:

27-3 AUS6### (just coincidence AUS = Australian model?) 4 inch BBL

586 AUK5### 3 inch BBL

I suspect both may have been refinished and the 27-3 ported aftermarket as I don't think they came from the factory with such finishes but maybe wrong. Both look like nice items though.

Only one smallish pic of the 27-3 so far (not sure if it is in fact a 27 with SS) but three pics for the 586.

Kind regards
Jason

Welcome to the Forum.

The M27 is not stainless. It looks like it has an aftermarket hard chrome or electroless nickel finish. The porting is indeed aftermarket.

Default Hard chrome

I agree with the Marine! Both appear to be a hard chrome finish! Also the 586 might be a cut barrel to the 3". The front sight ramp in set back from the end of the barrel, not factory! Also the gun appears to be a square butt, never with a 3" barrel from the factory. My 2 cents!

I would bet hard chrome. And, as already stated, all aftermarket additions including the 586 barrel cut. Well done and on guns that aren't collectible anyway, so I would consider them as adding value/interest.

Agree with hard chrome on the 586 but the model 27 looks like electroless nickel to me. However that slight bronze color cast may simply be due to lighting.

Thanks everyone for your helpful comments. Great tips on the likely cut barrel and square grips.

Interestingly I noticed the seller has changed the M27 ad to nickel finish. Unfortunately, both sellers price expectations are high, particularly the 586.
