Default Anyone have one of the S&W Schofield reproductions?

How do they compare to the Uberti ones?

I want one to shoot, so the antique Schofields are probably out... But I wonder if the reproductions are as nice as the modern Single Action Armys that Colt builds.

Had one as well as a Uberti and one other replica. Just didn't fit my hand all that well. If I were going to buy one now I'd definitely get the Uberti over the Smith. It costs a lot less and is, in my opinion, every bit as good.

Can you fire the original (1800s) ones or are they basically museum pieces?

I have shot a new Schofield that another Forum member owns. It is a fine firearm.

If you get an old one, I would recommend using black powder loads only. The pressure curve is different between BP and smokeless.

Default Modern Schofield

I bought a modern Performance Center Schofield revolver last year and am perfectly happy with it. Except for one thing: I need another one!
The gun is top quality and shoots to the point of aim with Black Hills 230 gr. factory loads. I have never owned one of the reproductions, but know folks who have and I feel that the the genuine S&W is a much better gun. It is certainly expensive, but I've never had a problem paying a high price for top quality. I also own Colt Single Action Army revolvers and the S&W Schofield is as good as, or better than, any of them.
Now I want another one for my other hand. Got one for sale?

I've always wanted a Smith new version myself, but I recall reading here a while back that forcing cone is made way too thin.

I have the Uberti 45 with both 5" and 3" bbls. It is a great gun. I don't shoot it enough to keep and have been thinking about selling it. It is like new. PM me and we can talk. Wallace in Ga.

Had the Smith & I've had three Italian versions here.
The quality on the Smith was better overall.

Yes, the S&W PC Schofields are pricey, but the original Schofields are 3 to 10 times as expensive. They are 130+ years old. There are no parts available to fix them. While I might be tempted to shoot one with black powder loads to see what it is like, I sure wouldn't think of ompeting with one.

The new PC guns sure are pretty!

I wanted the SW version but the $2000.00 plus price tag at the time was more than I could justify. So I got the Uberti in 44-40 from Navy Arms. Glad I did. Less expensive than the Smith and an excellent piece of work. Kept it several years and sold it when a guy wanted it worse than I did. I'd never hesitate in buying Uberti. I've had others and they were also excellent.

Buy the real deal and enjoy it. I have two Schofields and fire them both with proper ammo. It is a joy to handle such history.Part of gun ownership for me..

I have a Uberti with a 5" barrel in .38 Special. Got it at a good price and am happy with it. Aside from the internet, I have never even seen a S&W.
