Default Finally joined the 44 magnum club

Iíve been looking to get a model 29 for some time now and after looking at a nice 29-3 at a gun show Saturday I found this shiny piece at the LGS just after the show. A 629-1 that looks like itís nearly new. It came with a set of hardwood monogrips I like plus the factory targets that look like they were took off right after it was bought. From what I can tell it was shot but only just a little. Spent $650 for it and I donít feel cheated at all. I love stainless guns and Iím very happy to have two stainless Smithís now! I am also hoping someone could tell me when this was shipped? Serial is AWL6xxx. Canít wait to get out this weekend to shoot it.

Welcome to the club. You’re in good company around these parts.
Congrats as well, that’s a fine .44 mag. To get started on. Be careful though, before you know it you will be wanting another one!

Nice 44. I would have snatched that one up pretty quick for $650.

And you will start reloading to avoid the $0.75 per round for 44 mag ammo. Great price on an excellent revolver.

EDIT: Based on your price, it appears you bought 2 years late , rather than 2 years early. You could sell today for an immediate profit -- well bought! Your savings will finance your "reloading" equipment.

Congratulations on the new Model 629-1 Smithbug! Although it's kind of hard to tell through the packaging, that appears to be a very nice set of factory target stocks you acquired with your new 629. If it was me, I would have those factory targets re-installed in a flash!

Enjoy the new N-frame!

Great snag! Don't expect to buy too many more for that price! No telling how many 44s that are out there that have only six rounds through them. Like Engineer1911 said, reloading is the only way to afford to enjoy shooting that one often. It'll also let you load rounds that are more comfortable to shoot than factory and less abusive to the gun.
And they can be addicting, ask me how I know....

I would say you got it it for a VERY good price! My blue 29-3, 6" set me back $700 last November. (gun only) My 4" 29-2, (nickel) was marked $950 at the gun show last month. Traded into it. (gun only) Both are SUPER nice! Enjoy your 629! Bob

Congratulations! Very nice!

My 629 has the Hogue rubber grips (factory) which I like, but both sets of wood grips you have are nice.
Now you NEED to get a Marlin 1894 in 44 Magnum to go with it!

I wouldn't worry too much about Jerry.

It's not like he is human.

So hereís a picture with the factory stocks on it, since several of you thought that would be the way to go. I am an avid reloader and plan to make my own loads for it. If anyone has a favorite LSWC recipe for deer I would be more than happy to try it out. And thank you for letting me know my revolvers age. Itís good to know I am older than it is...even if itís just barely lol.

Actually I am already set for reloading .44 mag. Some years ago I bought a box of random gun stuff for $50 and it had a almost full box of xtp bullets and a set of lee carbide dies plus some other ammo and odds and ends. One of my trash route customers was getting too old for it and wanted to throw it out. I said you canít throw out ammo but I would buy if from him instead. Next week I get this whole box of stuff for what I was going to pay for the ammo.
