Default Searching for info and estimated value for Gold Plated 586

Good evening. I spoke to a nice lady at the S&W Historical Display at the NRA Convention in Dallas. She recommended I go on this forum for info on my pistol.
I recently acquired a 24 ct Gold Plated, S&W 586-3, Ser 1877.
I am told by a gunsmith it is unfired and the person I received it from says it was a gift to a Criminal Justice Professor from his students. I have a pic of him receiving it and his obituary.
Plating appears to be flawless.
I have submitted a request for a letter of authenticity.
Thanks for any info, and have a great week.

Welcome! If you have not already mailed the letter request, the three letters in front of the serial number (from the flat bottom of the grip frame) are also part of it and the historian will need them to research the gun. Hope this is helpful and let us know what the letter turns up.

Fords is the only finisher that plates in gold. Always Over nickel .The finish is not that expensive as you might think.

That's not a serial number. Look on the bottom of the grip frame. You may have to remove the stocks to see it.

What is the serial number?

Serial number is BBM1877. The Letter of Authenticity arrived this am and indicates the gold plating was done after shipping from the factory on January 17, 1989.

Does the letter say if it was a blue or nickel gun? After Laketime's post it made me curious.

Could you post a picture of the Jinks letter?
