Which 629 to sell
I'm thinking of selling either a 629-2 Mountain revolver with box or my 629-3 Mountain Gun no box. Which one should I sell. The Mountain revolver is less common, not really rare but you don't see them for sale real often. I will sell the one I decide on this forum. thanks for any feedback.

Dash 3 has the endurance package that included tighter cylinder throats and a smaller forcing cone for better accuracy. Unless it is a dash 2E, dash 2 did not. That's why I'd keep the dash 3. However, I suspect the Mountain revolver is a better collector item.

Which one do you like the least?? I'd have to toss a coin.

I'm going to give you some advice my wise old daddy gave me about 60 years ago...." Don't ever sell a gun that's paid for and you that you like , even just a little. Chances are you will regret selling it ! "
I took that advice...and you know what....that old man was a lot smarter than I was giving him credit for.
I own some nice old guns right now that I couldn't replace for blood or money all because of that advice. Like that model 58 in my avatar, I traded a very used Ruger MKI Target for it in 1975 and will never sell it.
Daddy would say...." Don't be acting the fool boy...those guns ain't eating no hay, keep em ! "

Now that's a really good thought. Unless someone wants to cut down their amount of guns due to storage problems or just need the money then you should just keep them.
Seeing how you have two I can see possibly letting one go but still they aren't the same gun either. The gun with the box would possibly sell quicker and for more money.

I can't remember a gun I regret buying. I can remember guns I regret selling. But, then everyone is not the same and you have give us no idea why you want to sell one. Plus, no idea on barrel lengths, what you use them for. Don't know if you hunt, backpack, make holes in paper, shoot bowling pins, just look at them or what.

IMHO. YOU OWN 2 SEPARATE VARIATIONS OF THE M629. IN EFFECT, YOU OWN 2 DIFFERENT GUNS---WITH DIFFERING COLLECTOR INTEREST, AND VALUE. DON'T SELL EITHER ONE OF THEM, BECAUSE YOU THINK THAT YOU HAVE, SIMPLY 2 M629s. IF YOU NEED TO SUBMIT ONE TO HARD USE, MAKE IT THE M629-3, MOUNTAIN GUN.........
IN AN OPEN MARKET PLACE--GOVERNED SOLELY BY THE FORCES OF SUPPLY AND DEMAND--THE TRUE MARKET VALUE OF EACH OF THESE REVOLVERS, WILL BE DETERMINED BY THE HIGHEST PRICE THAT THE WINNING BIDDER, PAYS AT AUCTION. IT DOES NOT MATTER WHAT THE BLUE BOOK SAYS, OR THE PUNDITS ON OUR FORUM SAY. IMHO--THE MOUNTAIN REVOLVER WOULD GENERATE THE MOST INTEREST........
I AM A BOTH A MOUNTAIN GUN AND A M629 LOVER. AS SUCH, I HAVE PERUSED ENDLESS AUCTIONS OF THESE GUNS. I OWN MOUNTAIN GUNS IN SEVERAL CALIBERS, INCLUDING A M629-3. THEY ARE WELL REGARDED REVOLVERS, THAT ARE INCREASING IN VALUE......
IN MY SEARCH OF M629s, AND MOUNTAIN GUNS, THROUGH THE YEARS, I HAVE FOUND THAT CLEAN, SELDOM FIRED, PRE-LOCK, MOUNTAIN GUNS, IN .44 MAG ARE STILL AVAILABLE. HOWEVER, I HAVE NEVER SEEN A M629 MOUNTAIN REVOLVER FOR SALE ! ! ! UNLESS I WAS DESPERATE FOR MONEY, I WOULD NOT SELL EITHER OF THESE FINE REVOLVERS......
IF I WAS INTERESTED IN EXTRACTING THE MAXIMUM PROFIT, FROM THE SALE OF THESE GUNS, I WOULD LIST THEM ON AUCTION SITES, WHERE THEY WILL BE VIEWED BY THE LARGEST NUMBER OF PROSPECTIVE BUYERS......
BELOW ARE PICS OF MY MOUNTAIN GUNS, MY M629-3 MG, MY 8 3/8" M629 CLASSIC HUNTER, AND MY 3" M629......

What is your intended use for the gun you keep? Collector or shooter/carry? Collector = 629-2, shooter/carry = 629-3.

I have regretted selling almost ever gun I ever sold/traded. A short time back, I found the receipt for the Combat Magnum I bought used in the late 60s. The serial was K264xxx or so. I could have been a first year issue. I have no idea what I did with that gun, but it probably was sold for a stainless model, and I don't have that one either.
I learned the hard way...never sell a gun unless absolutely necessary to feed the kids! :-)

SINCE THEY ARE AT CROSS PURPOSES, AS YOU SO PRECISELY IDENTIFIED Shark Bait, I SUGGEST THAT HE NEEDS TO KEEP THEM BOTH--IN ORDER TO KEEP THE WHOLE ENCHILADA, WHICH HE HAS ALREADY PAID FOR, AND FEW OF US WILL EVER ENJOY......
IF HE NEEDS TO RAISE SOME FUNDS, I SUGGEST THAT HE NEEDS TO CULL SOME LESS DESIRABLES, FROM THE HERD----IMHO, OF COURSE......

I TOTALLY AGREE WITH YOU, Nightowl ! ! !
I ACTUALLY REGRET SELLING EVERY COLT AND S&W THAT I EVER OWNED.....
ON THE OTHER HAND---DIVESTING MYSELF OF 3 TAURUS REVOLVERS THAT I SOLD FOR CASH AT KITTERY TRADING POST, IN THE STATE OF MAINE, AT A GREAT FINANCIAL LOSS, WAS THE VERY BEST GUN TRANSACTION, THAT I EVER ENTERED INTO.....

Would Love to see a photo of your -2 Mountain Revolver. I don’t believe that I’ve ever seen one.

I've sold off several S&W and Colt handguns and really enjoy frequently shooting the few I now have.
