Default 629-5 2 5/8" Help Please!!!

I traded for this gun today. I had been thinking about it for a week or two and, having a penchant for pre-lock anything S&W, I decided to go and bring her home.

Has an aluminum PC case, all paperwork. The little strip of paper in the case as seen in the pics shows that it is called a "Light Hunter" which I am pretty sure is completely wrong. It looks like a UDR to me. Serial number is MCA0084. Special order # 9169. Product code is 170135.
I took the pachmayr grips off of it to see the serial number. I think these probably came with wood finger groove combats. No other grips came with her.

Any help verifying what I got and whether or not it is a special order Lou Horton or something unique, will be much appreciated. It is in fantastic shape with good lockup, no top strap erosion, etc. really almost like new except for a light turn line.

Thanks in advance for the insight!!!

Hey that’s super nice. I didn’t even know there was a no-lock version of this gun. Here’s a picture of the currently offered 629-6. Great gun despite the lawyer lock. I love mine.

The SCS&W #4 says product code 170135 is a 2-5/8" Performance Center, 300 manufactured for Lew Horton, 1999 & 2000.

Send an email to Lew Horton at "[email protected]". Included all the info you have including the SN# & product code. If you add your name & home address they (Earl Minot) will reply back, usually promptly, with a personalized pdf letter attached to their email with all the details they have on it.

Let us know what they say.

Most definitely a Lew Horton Light Hunter. Another source says just 163 made. This is the third one with complete box label details that I've been able to add into my database.

Thank you all for the comments and information. I have sent an email to Earl to see what he comes back with. I will post the text of his response when I get it. This is the second time I have come across a Lew Horton just sitting in the case with a low-for-the-market price. Last one was a LH special run of S&W 696s with magnaported barrel that I snatched up for a song.

The model name "Light Hunter" is what really threw me off and I guess my Google-Fu is not as strong as it should have been to find additional information.

May be I should play the lottery this week

Congratulations on acquiring a relatively hard to come by Lew Horton variant. The N and L frame snubs hold a special attraction for me. I can provide a little additional information on this model.

There were two small production runs produced. Product code 170135 for both, 163 units produced with alpha prefix MCA and 160 units produced with alpha code MCC. Total production of 323 units. They were produced between March 1999 and January 2000. As noted, the state of Mass. certificate lists them as " Light Hunter". The Smith and Wesson product profile sheets list them as "UDR's" aka ultimate defense revolvers. They are also referred to as "PCDR's", aka Performance Center defense revolvers.

They were part of a three gun series offered by Lew Horton with consecutive product codes. Product code 170133 was an eight shot Model 627, sometimes referred to as the "Bloodwork" gun. Three small runs produced between Dec. 1998 and Dec. 2000, total units produced 444. Product code 170134 was a six shot 657. Only one small run produced in Feb. of 1999, total units produced 151.

I have been fortunate to obtain two of each product code, including a consecutively serial numbered pair of the 629's. I am attempting to attach a couple of photos.

Best regards, Bob.

Bob,

I can't thank you enough for the additional information. the guns and grips are breathtaking. Definitely an impressive collection of some of my favorite form-factor revolvers.

I am going to have to see if I can get some of those grips. They are remarkable.

Thanks again.
