The factory grips are tiny on that model. That 3” barrel in that frame size is also something you won’t see on the guns of today. Great find.

Default Will need new grips for sure...

I’ll be on the lookout for better grips....
It was priced at $320 with the plastic grips... I didn’t haggle...
Appreciate if someone could date the ser# J9315XX....
Thanks in advance....

Those look like Rogers stocks, Safariland sold a copy of them too. I have a set on my S&W 53.

Why? There's a million great deals out there if you go looking in the right places. Nice score.

Yeah, good find. With a pair of original Magna's sourced online and a Tyler-T grip and that revolver will be good to go in my book!

Congrats!

Take a look at Hogue wood grips. They fill the hand and look good.

Congrats, I looked up your Serial Number and it looks like 1982;

The S&W 4th Edition lists. 1982 from J915401 to IJ18600. That date makes sense as they deleted the barrel pin in 1982. Your’s looks to be an unpinned barrel. The 36-1 went from 1967 to 1982 so you probably have one of the last 36-1 models.

Looks like a nice Model 36-1.

You are more likely to be pardoned with it worded my way. I like those stocks on K frames and Security Sixes. However, to fit me, J frames need a covered back strap. The only factory stocks from its period that cover the back strap are Combats. Unlike the larger frames, J Combats are affordable.

It still would have been a great find with a bare grip frame.

Indeed, just not in this state. Best I can hope for GB, and I do find some nice ones, just not in that price range.
