Removing Sideplate on 640
I owned a 640 long ago and never removed it. I just got a nice one on gunbroker and notice there is a pin on both sides of the frame right behind the cylinder. I’ve taken the sideplate off every used revolver I have ever owned. Never an issue. What is that pin for and does it make removing the sideplate an issue? All I ever do it blast out with brake cleaner, hose out with compressed air and very lightly lube.

I think it retains the frame mounted firing pin. Is it in-line with about where you suppose the firing pin would be?

Yep. Just want to make sure popping the plate isn’t a problem. Hammer block always falls out and that’s it on my other revolvers.

It ain't going anywhere. If you want to remove the firing pin you have to drive out that frame pin with a properly sized punch. (Hint: a 1/16 punch is just a hair too large).

No hammer block to worry about on that Centennial.
Funny, I just picked up one with a BKF serial# last Saturday.
