Hello, Have a 329PD that I got years ago that SELF-COCKED from single action firing yesterday with 180Gr PMC 44 mag ammo. This is the second time it has done this. Has this happened to anyone else? I am not a newbie to Scandium/Ti guns and shoot the 12oz .357 J frame and 17.5oz L frame guns with full power .357 a bunch.

Gun was held in a modified weaver stance when I fired.

The first time it did this was years ago with IMI(Hansen) 180 Gr 44 mags. They were HOT rounds. That time it cocked itself and the safety lock was activated also. Crazy. Gun has stock springs.

I just don't see how my thumb or any other part of my hands could have cocked it on recoil. I will need to do a Slow-Mo video record next time I take it out.

329 problem

It's from inertia. Another example of inertia are guys who are able to rack and cock a 1911 by pulling the whole gun back hard, then quickly thrusting in forward. I was never able to do it, but I've seen a few videos of it being done. I'm 99% sure the same type of force is causing your revolver to cock itself.

Tom S, I have seen a 1911 cocked that way, but, it had a very light recoil spring in it. Several of the IPSC master class shooters used to flip them that way, but I haven't seen it done for some time now.

I have heard/read of something similar happening with a 500 mag, only the gun not only cocked itself but double fired. I believe a woman was doing the shooting........
