Need some advice
I have the opportunity to purchase either a 329 or 629 both 4", from a friend whose father passed away and is not going to keep both 44 mag. and both guns are like new in the box. I have had several model 29's in 6" but never a 4". I won't be CCW either one, so I was wondering if anyone had shot the 329 and is it a killer? I have a 340pd and I know how it shoots. Any advise would be appreciated.

IMO, if you have no plans to carry it for a CCW or a hiking gun then go for the 629. Much more enjoyable to shoot at the range. The only benefit of the 329 is reduced weight for carrying.

I shoot 38 spec Hornady Critical Defense in my 340PD I found out I am to old to take the punishment from the magnum loads.

In .44 Magnum, "weight" is my friend. I'll take the extra ounces every time.

If not for CCW, then 629 seems like the better choice even with same gun particularly at different barrel length - unless I am missing something?

Have had both. If you ever intend on shooting it at all get the 629. I sold the 329 fairly soon after purchase.

Thanks, I believe I will go with the 629 I hadn't ever seen a 329 before and it looked good, but I was wondering about the recoil.

And yes it is a killer with decent ammo. Also bullet pull is a big issue. I have shot and continue to shoot 44 for over 40 years. I also shoot 460, 480 and 454. I am not recoil sensitive. It is just plain no fun and not really as controllable as the others.

Yup, I would choose the 629 too.
