Model 25-15
Bought this about 60 days ago and I have to say it shoots like a dream. I wish the cylinder was a little longer but I’m not griping.

I wondered "Why a longer cylinder?" for about 2 seconds when it dawned on me - heavier, ergo longer bullets. Nice gun, and I swear that someday I'll have a shooter (there's a 25-5 125th Anniversary Edition in the safe) version as soon as other guns stop popping up I want more!

Haha tell me about it, I’m already in so much trouble with the wife especially since I bought a new 29-10 last week. But yes that’s correct on the cylinder , I can stuff longer rounds in the chamber but it’d be nice just to have a little more length as I like long heavy bullets 300-325 grains. I won’t hot rod this one though. I think it’ll do the way it is. Also I have a 29-2 I’ve had forever and I noticed the cylinder on that one is a little longer than the one I just bought. Being called a classic I’m a little surprised at that but maybe I’m missing something as to why.

The 29-2 has a recessed cylinder (~1.745") so that's part (~.045") of the difference in length.
Modern (non-recessed) 44 Mag cylinder are ~.030" longer than modern 45 Colt & 41 Magnum cylinders (~1.700" -vs- ~1.670").
Guess we just have to be glad that S&W was "nice enough" to make a few 45 Colt revolvers of us.
Nice find!

I have a 29-2, 4", and a 29-3, 6.5". I really like to shoot my 25-15 more. NOW, if I could only find a 25-7 that I can afford. I added older target stocks to mine. Bob

I acquired a 25-15 about a years ago and absolutely love the look and lines of the tapered barrel, beveled cylinder, and narrow, but longer stocks. The build quality is first-rate with a high-polish blue, wide target hammer and trigger. The stocks are much narrower at the top than the old Goncalo Alves, but with mild loads they feel just fine. I did mount a Hogue monogrip for awhile but didn't like the way it altered the classic look, so off they came. With tapered barrel the 25-15 feels much lighter than it is, with superb balance. For anyone so inclined the gun could easily handle 250 grain slugs loaded to 500 fpe, but why strain such a nice piece when there are many other choices.
So far I've fired Hornady 225 grain FTX that went 912 fps for 416 fpe using Doppler radar, and Sig V-crown 230 grain JHP that went 861 fps for 379 fpe.
Also fired an old hand loaded 255 grain HC that went 778 fps for 343 fpe.
Naturally these are all pretty mild in the large frame Smith, but I didn't buy it to hot-rod.

Thanks for starting this thread grice. I've been looking at the 25-15 models daily online for two weeks trying to decide if they were worth buying or not.
I think I'm going to get one ordered.

I really like mine except the stocks. 1 of my favorites. Picked mine up at a gun show in 2016 (used, as new). Shop around, there are some decent prices out there compared to some others. Bob

But like Bob said, the grips are another matter. They’re kind of narrow unless one has smaller hands but they still look nice.

A 4" 25-9 may be even better than the 5" 25-7

I agree, Very nice revolvers. I just now got back from the local gun store and he could get me one for about 5 bucks more than the online prices I was finding for new model 25's.
It should be here Monday.

He really gave me a deal then, $862.00 which is a bit higher than the Bud's gun shop price of $851.00, But there would have been a $20.00 transfer fee if I'd bought it from Bud's.
