Default 64-3 from GA prison system

One of our local gun shops seems to have very good connections within the industry. The presidents of Ruger and Hornady have both been to visit and stay for three days recently.

When I dropped by the other day they had shelf full of model 64s. Some used, some abused and some in between. All had an electro-pencil number engraved on them and new, poorly fitting, replacement grips. The salesman told me they came from the Georgia Prison System.

I looked over several a selected this beauty with a balance of wear and engraving. For $269, I couldn't pass it up. Model 64-3 with serial number ACZ6323. She's a shooter to boot Target at 10 yards - off hand).

That's a great deal for a local shop, especially when you can look over the sample and pick the best of. These are great revolvers and an incredible value in today's market. I've considered buying another!

Very nice! I've considered tracking down one of the police/DOC revolvers on GB but I've wondered about condition.

Maybe I'll find one as nice as that one.

Same place I got mine! 64-5 though.

I like the grips, fits my hands well. I put them on a Model 19-4 and they fit as they were fitted.

Would like another

Me and Medic 15 got ours the same day. If I had the money I'd have bought a dozen of then at that price. Sweet shooting 38.

Drats. I thought Larrys was a Georgia Shop. Missed my 64 by 7 hours of driving time.

Dressed mine up with a set of Altamont Black grips. I didn't like the ridge on the top of the left grip panel on the ones that came on it. I now have one of the ugliest guns with a pretty set of grips. AND it shoots beautiful too! lol!

Local police supply shop in Collinsville VA has 64's trade in from one of Virginia's supermax prison units, not sure about condition.

I hope there are still some departments or prisons etc. that still have some nice revolvers to trade off.

The couple I've found locally have been in pretty tough shape so I'm hoping to see another batch hit the market.
