I have a S&W Model 63-3. The prefix of the serial # is CBS. Anyone know approximately when this j frame was made?
Thanks,

Thank you Kernel,
Was this one of the special runs by a distributor? It is a 2" barrel. Did it come out with the black rubber grips? Trying to get a little background!
Thanks,
Vince

Those shipped with a variety of factory stocks, which is kind of unusual. I've seen them with wood Magnas, Uncle Mikes and Hogues. Either of those three would be correct.
If your gun was a Lew Horton (one of many distributors who had them in that era) you could call and they would let you know what stocks they shipped with.

Kernel,
Do you or anyone know what year or serial # range the Lew Hortons were?
Thanks

All the Lew Horton guns I've seen were BDY prefixes and shipped in..... May - June of 1989.
One of the six, was even lettered by LH, which said they shipped a total of 500 in that era.

Thanks Kernel,
I will try to get out and shoot this thing a few times and see if it is "sticky" like everyone else's 63. It is a nice little revolver to carry. I think it will be fun, even if I can't hit anything.
Now it's time to find something different to work on!
