Default Did Lew Horton sell a 625-3 3" barrel?

Hello everyone. I've been looking for a 625 revolver in 45 acp for quite sometime locally and on gun broker.

I noticed there is a seller that has listed a 625-3 3" and claims it is a 1 of 1500 Lew Horton special. I can't find anything that Lew Horton actually did distribute such a model. I also see they sell for $1200 to $1600 in such a configuration being Lew Horton or not.

Are they actually worth that and that rare? My goal is to eventually buy a 3" and a 5" at some point to compliment my other 45 acp handguns. Thank you your time.

Yes, there was 3-inch M625-2. It was fairly common, and they made thousands of them. Product code 100923 (hint, hint, searchable term). I never saw one with Lew Horton lineage.

This one does have the 100923 product code. I have searched that but nothing really came up with a Lew Horton special.

Even without the Lew Horton lineage is the value still $1200-$1600?

The seller has two others listed that also claim to be Lew Horton and the man I talked (Earl) said none of them were distributed by them.

The gun I'm looking at is $1400 and appears to be new in the box but is being sold as used. It has the original box all the manuals and tools included. It seems they are hard to find (only a few listed) on gunbroker and even harder to find locally. Is it worth the $1400 or should I wait and keep looking? Thank you

On a side note I really like the firearm but for the asking price idk if it's worth it. I'd like to carry it sometimes and shoot it but not destroy it. I'd just like to have a piece of mind that it will be worth or hold its value in the future.

I have been looking at the model 25 as well. Just not sure. I almost pulled the trigger on a charter arms 45 pitbull and I just saved a bit more to buy a Smith and Wesson to have reassurance of quality.

Sounds like a negotiation point. Tell him no such item so it's over priced. Offer $1000.

Thank you everyone for all your help. I have not heard anything back from the seller since I called them out on the mistake. I think I'm going to pass and keep on looking.

Some of the Lew Horton Distribution guns were special limited run offerings. The premium is for the rare configuration. Not every one falls into this category.

My friend that owns a pawn shop brought out 3 625-3 guns. One was a 3", he paid $600 (2015)from another LGS he knows.

Local seller here has one listed NIB ..$1500

It is my belief that the 625-2 was only available with a 5" barrel.

The 3" barrel was a factory option starting with the 625-3

A very nice dash 3 with factory combats without a box sold locally for $1000 a few months ago.It sold quickly.

In the early 90s SDM cut barrels to 3" or replaced the longer barrels with 3".SDM was also noted for their gold bead front sight.

Since you might carry it, how about a 325NG? Mine tips the scales at 27oz.

They have a 2-3/4" bbl. & while they come with a fixed rear sight (C&S) it's easily swapped out with an adjustable sight, as is the front Night Sight for a traditional ramped sight. Sc frame but steel cylinder.

.

325NG & 1911sc-E

.

I shoot 45 Super handloads in mine, on occasion. Plenty strong.

Actually there was 3 inch 625-2 but very few made. You are thinking of the dash 3 they made decent amount of. The dash 4 3 inch 625s were distributed by Lew Horton and fewer made. The 4 inch 625s are actually tougher to find than the 3 inchers.

For the OP,
Between 1989 and 2000 Lew Horton sold 155 guns in the 625 model. All were product code 148122 with the serial number starting with CCV.
There where 4 different guns Lew Horton did at the same time.
The add on GB you referred to, I looked at briefly. They list an incorrect product code.

There is a verified Lew Horton model on GB also. That has a letter from Horton confirming the gun.
Good luck and great question.

Yeah once I saw the letter that verified it that's what made me second guess the others. Lew Horton also confirmed it. His name was Earl and he was very nice. He confirmed all three serial numbers to be non Lew Horton firearms. I still can't believe they are selling for what they are. As popular as the 45 acp is you would think Smith and Wesson would produce more revolvers in that caliber then what they currently do.

Yes, Earl (Minot) at Lew Horton is known to be a nice, helpful guy and generates letters confirming a particular gun came from them upon request. It is mysterious that they are no longer an S & W distributor.

With careful shopping you should be able to find a 3" 625-3 in the $1000-1200 range. Good luck in your search.

What is the source of this information?

All the 3" 625-2 that I have seen or heard of were barrel swaps or barrel cut downs.

EDIT:I recently went to see one locally that was advertized as a 3" 625-2

It was marked as a 625-2 inside the yoke on the frame. It had the SDM gold bead front sight blade that many of the conversions have.

The owner was shocked with the news.

Your right. In my initial post the -2 was a typo. I meant to write -3, which is what's in my database.

I probably have close to two dozen -3's in my database, but only one -2. So, they are uncommon.

According to the SCSW (4th edition, page 302), 478 3" models were made for LH in 1991. Product code 100926.

During the last year I've had eyes on 1 4" 625-3 and 2 3" 625-3.

All 3 did not have original grips, boxes, papers or tools plus they had handling marks/scratches and signs of being shot more than a little.

All 3 were in the $1000 asking range.

I passed on all 3 but was close to pulling the trigger on one of the 3".

There is an option for a short barrel 45 acp.
Locate a Brazilian model 1917. Usually around 5 Bill's or less given condition. Verify good internal operation. Then have the barrel shortened by a competent gunsmith to what ever length you want and then refinished.

Just an option, cause they ain't getting any less expensive.
And as you've seen, there are falsehoods advertised.

And another 2,000 could of been made for S&W and it's other distributors. Be careful not to read too much into a single entry in the SCSW. All we know is LH received 478.

This is nuts.... I was winning a 325 Night Guard for a entire week at $725. It was supposed to end at 9:42 and now it's over $950 my max bid. This is insane.
