Default 460 XVR day at the range

Spent some time sighting it in for short range and then headed to the rifle range for some longer distance shooting. I need more powder to hit the 200 yards with the crosshairs. Hit the ground just in front. I will have to get jacketed projectiles if I use more powder as the plated ones won't take the punishment. Fun for sure.

Wow - what a beast of a handgun! Around here I have never seen anyone at the range with a 460. Good luck with the 200 yard shooting!

Try some hard cast and even some with gas checks. Lead moves faster for a given amount of powder vs copper.

You can easily do 2k fps with proper fitting cast and a gas check.

After some load development and chrono work, I got the Hornady 240gr XTP-Mag to leave the 460XVR at 1,980fps.

If my ballistic calculator is telling the truth, that bullet hits at 500 yards just about exactly like a .45cal 230gr Hardball hits at the muzzle.
