Default Holster for 66 Snubbie - what do you use?

I recently bought a 66-2 Snubbie. While I am still a Glock/LCP EDC Guy, I may carry this once in a while if the mood strikes me. I “prefer” IWB.

What do you use? Cost is a factor as I won’t be carrying this often and our oldest is off to college in the Fall. Go Auburn Tigers!

What brand are you using for the Glock? Judging by the picture you might want a center console holster
Everyone is different in their preferences. I am partial to leather/kydex myself. My guns sleep in the holster and live in the dresser. Aliengear isnt too expensive, if they have K frane sizes available. Make sure you use a good stiff belt.

And Nice 66! That barrel length in the 66 is the perfect point and shoot for me. You will love it

Edit: Just checked and yes Aliengear makes IWB for K frame.

Default Holster for 66 Snubbie - what do you use?

I like a Summer Special style, but this the Pro Carry Deep Comfort morning s the only inexpensive one (under $90) I know of for a K-frame. I haven’t tried one.

A good Summer Special holster will have a steel-reinforced mouth for one-handed re-holstering. I don’t think this has it.

Best holster for this is a Roy Baker Pancake Holster. Has been out of business for about 30 years, but they are frequently available on the popular on-line auction site in the $30 -35 range. My first issued gun in 1979 was a 66-1, 2.5 inch which was issued with the Roy Baker Pancake. They are simple, efficient and pull the gun into your body, which makes a mid size revolver disappear. I have over 20 of them for all types of revolver/semi auto and they are my all time favorite.

Go online to DeSantis. He makes a holster for virtually every model handgun you can divine. Expensive handgun requires a well-made, well-fitting holster and one that one "scuff" your pistol.

If price is an issue take a look at Bianchi. For IWB I have a model #3S for a K frame S&W snub that I really like.
You can put it on or take it off without taking off your belt and it has an adjustment for the angle. This comes in handy when sitting in a car, you can adjust the angle, tilt it so it doesn't push up into your ribs and it has a thumb snap for easy opening.
Price is around $60.00 and the quality is worth that price.
On the back it's marked Bianchi, #3S , pistol pocket , S&W 38/357.
I like the features and for the price the quality is great. They are made in Mexico now...but the quality is still OK.

Gary

Go to Midway USA and click on “Holster Finder”. That will show you several options. I have a Galco Combat Master for mine. I’m not liking IWB for revolvers. OK with square plastic guns. I have an old thumbreak Bianchi 5BHL that I wear with a jacket in winter. Old school cool.

I frequently carry a 2 1/2" model 66-5 when off-duty. I have a Simply Rugged Sourdough Pancake holster for it that I really like.

For my Model 66 2.5", my particular Safariland pancake holster w/thumbsnap (holster model 328-08) is no longer made but here are a couple of references which have similar versions still in their catalogs:

It's not an IWB, but I just bought a Don Hume JIT for my 3" model 29. It rides tight to the body and is secure for a holster without a thumb strap. This is a minimalist holster, is very comfortable and is priced right.

Reviews: J.I.T. SLIDE [J.I.T. Slide] - $38.00 : Don Hume Leathergoods, manufactures high quality leather and nylon goods.

+1 for Roy Baker - the pancake maker... simple holsters that work. I don’t have that many but am always on the lookout.

Kramer leather, best IWB I've ever worn. Spendy but ebay is your friend. Paid 45.00 for the Kramer . Retail is 145.00. My SP 101 3" becomes forgotten when worn in this rig. $1,000 Smith don't scrimp on the leather.

I carry my 2 1/2 K frames with it on occasion. It is priced right also. Get the body shield model if you get it.

Another vote for the Simply Rugged sourdough pancake holster, with the optional belt straps you can go from OWB to IWB. I have a whole bunch of Simply Rugged stuff and the quality and price is spot on.

A quest nylon or similar, but only if it has an outside loop. High, tight, and out of site. When the light bulb went off and I started looping through the outside it made holster selection a joy.

Copied this from an earlier thread, this is an excellent holster for the 66 2 1/2":

For IWB for me there is only one holster, which are the FIST ultra-thin Kydex models.

Leather holsters, by comparison, seriously add to the guns bulk. A FIST kydex holster adds literally nothing dimensionally to the gun. They are rigid enough to protect you from the sharp edges of the gun and again, give some light retention (which you can easily adjust to be less or more retention) nd they add absolutely no bulk to the gun. For open carry I'll use leather. For IWB I find that using a leather holster actually requires slightly looser pants, while the Kydex one doesn't add enough bulk to require anything but loosening up the belt by one notch--no different than sticking a gun in your waistband. I suspect that once you go to the ultra thin Kydex, you'll never go back.

Been packing that piece, or it’s SW cousins, for nearly 45 years everywhere and every day. Been using a Bianchi #6, AIWB. Not fancy, but it works for me.
