Default Price Check - 627-0

Seen a couple of these pop up recently, always wanted one but the cost always turned me away. Thinking I might be ready.

What's one with original combats, in used but nice shape go for these days? $1500?

Lost an auction for one today, but glad I did as it sure looked like it had incorrect K frame combats.

The 627-0 is one of my favorite guns, even though I don't shoot it much. So, I watch for it more than some others. From what I recall, guns by themselves in excellent condition are heading for $1500. With original box and unfired condition, one could go for $2000 plus.

They only made a little over 5200 of them back in late 80s early 90s, so they don't pop up every day, although I do see them offered for sale several times a year. They are unique for their 5.5 inch barrel and checkered top strap.

That's why I want one --- because in a few years, they might be priced more like Pythons are now and I won't be able to (reasonably) get one. Plus, I like N frames. Why not?

What I really need is a AIWB gun e.g. a J frame so maybe it's all for the best.

They keep increasing in price. I bought one for each of my two sons and one for me. Most I had to pay out was around $700 for one like new in box. They are almost three times that now, but it has been 10 years since I bought one.

I'd keep looking, they are a rarity that's still affordable, and the only modern stainless Smith that was ever "knurled" on the top strap..

Question

I bought my 627-0 at a gun show at least 10 yrs. ago. It is in pristine condition with box, docs, tools. I remember being a bit surprised the seller was firm at $800.00 but I really "needed" it so it came home with me. My specimen has some razor sharp edges on the cylinder and forcing cone. Anyone else see this?

They tend to go in the $1200 range or so without box and contents, and higher from there, in the recent market. Good luck in your search.

Count me in as one who thinks these are currently great values.

Loose excellent condition ones with combats tend to fetch around 1100-1300 and boxed usually around 1500-1700. They are real nice guns but don't run and buy one that is overpriced. They come up quite often and they made 5000 of them if I recall correctly.

There is one for sale in a shop, with box, for $1600. But I blew my gun wad on a couple interesting pieces that fill needed niches for me. Guess that 627-0 will have to wait.
