I would like to buy S&W 629 for a long time and there are not the many in Europe and if so than bloody expensive.

I found one named MOD 629-4 with serial number B333853 in a good condition for an acceptable price. Pictures attached.

Can someone be so kind and let me know how old is this gun and whether it is the right "series" in terms of quality?

I´m also confused with the barrel length. "-4" means 4 inches and at first look is looks bigger, I would say 6´´.

The "-4" is a production designation and has nothing to do with barrel length. The serial number in the attached photograph is likely "BSS3853" (not B333853), which would place the production in late 1994, or sometime in 1995. The catalog is not very specific concerning the dates on the "BSS" prefix.

I have no idea about current value. Value is very dependent on condition.

Welcome and I have a 629-4, as armorer951 said the -4 is a design and engineer change. They started with the 629 no dash, than every time they improve something they add a -1,-2 and so on. The 629-4 is the most desirable in the 629 line, it has all the endurance packages, no MIM parts, still has the hammer mounted firing pin, and is drilled and tapped from the factory for a scope. The -5 introduced MIM hammer and trigger and a frame mounted firing pin, than down the dash numbers they have the internal lock and so on. As I said the -4 was the pinnacle of the 629 model, as far as strength and endurance.

So looking at the picture it is 6´´ version, right?

Welcome to the Bloody forum! The numbers after the dash represent engineering changes/improvements over the years. Yours is a six incher (I have NO idea what that'd be in metric) and is measured from the face of the cylinder to the end of the barrel. The dash 4 guns seem to be the most sought after. All of my dash 4s are very well made revolvers.
The going rate in the states would be in the $800 range. Good luck and I hope you're able to get it.

1 inch = 2.54 centimeters. Europe price for this starts at $1500 with a really long delivery time.

As 75Vette said I think the -4 revolvers are some of the best in the 66,629,686 line up. I would say to buy it if it's in good condition, just look online for a site on revolver inspection before purchase. It's been getting harder and harder to find older S&W and Colt revolver parts here in the US, I would imagine the same in Europe. As far as price, I can't advise as the exchange rate , availability, and other factors involved.. But if it's going for normal price, is in good condition, the 629-4 is the one to get. The -3 revolvers are also good.

Europe will be worse for sure, but this is acceptable risk to wait for a spare part for some time.

So accroding to the picture is that 6´´ barrel, right? I will measure it tomorrow.

l have let him fondle it, but NO SHOOTING.. He has tried to buy it even.

l quoted him a price, but he cried. So l raised the price... Just to hear

him cry LOUDER Don't let him talk you out of your Dash 4... l have put

maybe 1500rds thru mine this year.. lt just keeps shooting BETTER..

Ignore these replies. These gentlemen have no taste -- just lust for another stainless steel 44 mag. I'm guilty with 5 M629 and 4 M29 revolvers. I am spending the children's inheritance, one gun at a time!

I have just one 629-4 , 4" barrel . It came with S&W target grips , in real nice condition . I bought it @ a gun show in Sierra Vista , AZ for $775 . Using a pin gauge , the cylinder throats measure .429 . It's a keeper . Regards, Paul

Baby is already at home :-) However it has some years it looks like noone did shoot from that. The owner who sold it to me said that he did 6 shoots and the same the one before him.

I have some guns, but apart of RemmingtonTactical 870 are all Europe-based and this toy is really different. I did yesterday 40 shots and I´m really impressed how precise is it in single action mode. Double action is another story but I guess it is matter of experience.

I was later on shotting from my CZ75, Walther Ppk and Glock and I had a feeling I shoot .22 caliber ammunition :-)
