Default Grips for My Model 65 3-inch....Suggestions Please.

Hey all.

I have a model 65-5 with a 3-inch barrel. Right now I have the factory grips on it with the polished silver Tyler T-Grips. I really like the look and feel of the Tyler T-grips, but I have never shot any .357 loads with them so I have no idea how they handle stiff recoil.

I'd like to get some ideas and suggestions for other grip choices that would look great on my 65. It would be a bonus if they handle recoil well and don't hamper the ability to CCW it.

If you have pics, please post them. I'd like to see what else is out there. I'm sure there's some beauties that I don't have a clue about that would really make my 65 look great.

Thanks for the help and your time.
Have a great week.

Larry

Here is my 65-3 with Altamont "KU" grips. They feel very good in the hand.

Well, you did not mention cost, but I would get in touch with Jennifer at Culina grips, and look at some of their grips. You are going to have to wait 6 weeks, but she can sow you grips that are so beautiful, it will hurt your eyes to look at them. I just got a set of exhibition HIGHLY figured smooth cocobolo targets for my 17-3, and they are stunning to say the least. The least obtrusive for you would no doubt be combat style

I always recommend Spegel Boot grips.......how good are they....... he's backlogged about a year.

Pachmyer.... makes the best rubber "shooting" grips for cc with their "Compact" and "Professional Compacts" grips

OP doesn't mention if his 65 is RB or SB. I'm guessing round.
Mine worked best with the K target stocks.

Some examples of different types of grips for K/L frame round butt guns. I have small hands so I gravitate toward smaller grips and I am always looking for new ideas, both for function and looks.

Different guns, but same size so the OP should be able to get an idea of how they would look on a 3 inch model 65.

Plain Magna grips

K/L frame Hogue Bantam grips

Altamont Faux Ivory with a BK grip adapter

Pachmayr Pro Compact grips. Not the best looking but very comfortable

Altamont round to square grips

Older Uncle Mikes finger groove

S&W factory K frame combat grips

S&W round butt target (Banana) grips

Model 65-5 with factory smooth magna grips and BK grip adapter

Ahrends K/L round butt target grips (Retro Banana Grips)

For shooting, I'm a huge fan of the Ahrends Retro Combats as shown here on a 3" 66:

I like the Compac Pro, and the Uncle Mike's round-butt finger grooves on mine (the one's pictured above are round to square butt - mine are round butt - see photo below)
For carry the Uncle Mike's TWO finger boot grips are about as good as it gets IMO - but they can be hard to find.

For carry and shooting I like the Uncle Mikes which are getting hard to find and the S&W rubber that’s coming on the newer 686 are real comfortable to shoot. You can order them direct from a S&W Direct. Not listed on website but customer service can hook you up for $30 a pair. Give them the UPC code on a new 686 and they will sell them

I really like the Hogue Bantams.
Very comfortable to shoot with, even with magnums!

I've found that the factory magnas and a Tyler T grip fit my hand the best. It's thicker up top and more narrow at the bottom, just like my hand is when gripping a handgun. I'll probably move into some grashorn stocks and keep the tyler next. I like a carry gun to fit my hand naturally and be easy to hang onto, and looking good while doing that don't hurt a thing.

This is my 66-1 with the 2.5" barrel.

Hello this is my 66-1 with black Pearl's and my 19-3 with bonded ivory, both are made by eagle grips and both feel great. My two cents.
